  • An Unusual Swarm

I read an article about dragonflies coming to invade our area. I looked up what the dragonflies wanted.

They want to eat our mosquitoes.

I, for one, welcome our dragonfly overlords.

How does one attract dragonflies to an area? I'm one of those people who gets bitten by any bloodsucking insect in the area. Mosquitoes seem to believe I'm Thanksgiving dinner.

It helps that they don't bite or sting people, are beautiful and friendly - many summers I would read sitting in a willow tree and would have flocks of them hovering around my tree - the blue ones are my favorite.

A small pond with a lot of water plants is an ideal breeding ground for dragonflies. Don't know if you've got room for one.

They like certain specific plants as food, AFAIK, and also as cover (especially while young). They're not exactly the top of the food chain, though, yes, they do love them some skeeters!
