    She had stollen little, extremely petty things.
    ...Not calling the cops wasn't your decision, of course, but...Isn't that why misdemeanor shoplifting under a certain threshold ($250 here) is called "Petty Theft" ...? o_O;>
    Where I work, all shoplifters get the police called on them and are prosecuted to the full extent of the law. They're also banned. Lots of shoplifters are actually surprised at this.
    Sad, and kinda scary. Almost as if they didn't think they were doing anything illegal and/or wrong in the first place.

      Nah, more that they don't expect chain stores to bother to prosecute small cases.

        I know of a certain costume jewelry chain that caters to children/teens that has the threatening signs posted everywhere:

        "WE PROSECUTE BLAHBLAHBLAH"

        Nothing in there is worth more than probably $30. And if it is, it's behind glass. That's the only chain store I've heard of that really goes after people.



        We're a luxury store. Going after petty thieves is bellow corporates notice. I heard they once went after a return-scam group but only after they stole enough to get a felony. I was so proud of corporate that day. My baby, it's growing up. Non-security employees are not allowed to do jack where I work. We can't even be like, "Would you like some shorts to go with that cute top you just swiped?" I feel so deprived.
