  • New little kittle cat

This is the start of day 3 of having a new little bitty cat in the house. Seriously, she's TINY, she can't be more than 3 months old. I haven't gotten any pics of her yet, she's being all shy and scared (and with what the poor baby has been thru, I don't blame her!) and I expect it'll probably take another week or two before she starts relaxing and getting over it.

Kitteh Van Gogh, the cat I already had, is taking the newcomer totally in stride, and far far better than I ever would have expected. There has been much sniffing of noses, and very few hisses from either side. I think the little one has been doing most of that, and when she does Kitteh just backs off a couple of feet and sits down and watches her.

Little bit is, for all intents and purposes, feral. She's young enough that I'm pretty sure she'll learn to socialize with we big, clumsy human types in the house as well as the dogs. (The dogs have each met numerous cats, they're not the least bit fazed by a new bit of fluff.)

Ok, yep, Kitteh has adopted the little bit. He's succeeded in talking her into going over the gate and is escorting her in her initial explorations of the rest of the house. He spent most of yesterday going back and forth over the gate and trilling at the little bit, saying 'come on, see, it's easy!' in cat.

What? Pics? I have a really good one of Kitteh that I took just a few minutes ago. I managed to get a few (not so great) shots of Kitteh and little bit just outside the cat room. Enjoy.

    Awwww. She's adorable. (of course)

Feral cats are hard to figure on how they'll domesticate.

We had one kitteh that we got before he was even weaned, and he never settled down into housecat life, eventually getting out and running off.

We have another that we didn't pick up until he was at least 6 weeks, and he toys with the idea of being a lap cat and tends to want to be within arm's reach of one or both of us. He's scared of the outside and runs when the door gets opened.

Good luck with your new arrival.

From that one picture it looks like Kitteh has taken on a maternal role - hopefully, she can teach the little one the way of the domestic cat life.
One of my favorite cats was a semi-feral kitten that adopted me. He would turn up his nose at "people food" (including tuna!) the only thing I could figure is that he had been living out of restaurant leftovers and scraps. He thought cat food was living the high life.
      They are both adorable!

One of our girls was feral for about 9 months before she found her way into our yard and adopted us. It took us another 2-3 months of sitting out on the deck with her and throwing her bits of food before she let us touch her and eventually come inside, but now she's a big ol' sweetheart who loves to cuddle and have her belly rubbed.

Your little one is super cute and I hope (and think) he'll socialize well with everyone.

            Itty bitty kitteh, eh?

VERY cute! Sounds like your older kitty has decided to take new baby under his wing. It's so sweet when they do that.

I love how you call her a new bit of fluff.

Kitteh Van Gogh is gorgeous! Reminds me of my late Trouble; he had the fluffy tabby fur and big eyes, too.

I hope the little one soon adjusts to life as a tame cat, and holds still long enough for you to get a good picture.

Itty might be part Maine Coon - the markings, ear tufts and hugeass whiskers. It's good that another kitty is showing her the ropes. If Itty is this young, you might want to change her name to Dammit.

I'm fairly certain that Kitteh is part Maine Coon. He's got a lot of the physical characteristics, as well as a lot of the behavioral. Too soon to really tell what little bit (and I hope she tells me her name soon) is, but her fur patterning so far looks to be about halfway between calico and tortoise shell. She's got the oddest pale stripes running along her back, if she were black I'd name her after the kitty that Pepe was always chasing.

Watching the two of them today was like having my very own cute cat channel. I sat quiet on the couch while she came out and explored the living room and kitchen and even poked her nose into the bedroom. At one point she just walked right under Kitteh as he sauntered along with her, rubbing all up against him as she went. Very dawwwww moment.

She'll let me pet her, if I tempt her close enough with a chase toy. Once I start petting her she settles into it and really enjoys it. She still isn't sure about the looming giant clomping around when I walk around though.

Big cat has taken the kitten in as a protege, huh? I've had that happen once before.

Does appear to be the case. I was hoping that something like that would happen, little bit is intended to be a companion, friend, playmate and snuggle bud for Kitteh. I'm a bit shocked by how quickly it happened. Honestly, I expected it to take at least a month before Kitteh and little bit quit doing the 'you're new and strange and I don't know you so don't try to get too close to me HISS' dance thing. Sometimes the surprises are good ones.

                          Cats are weird.

Our old queen hates everybody else. Except for our youngster, Bruce, who she took to without any problem, which I suspect has a lot to do with how well he domesticated for us.
