I absolutely love food threads!
I was thrilled when I discovered foodgawker and was able to effectively surf hundreds of foodie blogs on one portal site. Other than the whole food porn aspect of it, you can get great ideas for meals with very little effort [just did a crockpot salisbury steak modified to remove the cream of mushroom by replacing it with cream of onion. Other than wicked salty thanks to the onion soup mix in the meat and the au just mix in the sauce which we can fix by replacing with some slightly different ingredients next time]
I love the discussions about recipes, and trying them and tweaking them, and turning people on to new and different stuff. Not much better, honestly. For me, love, friendship and hospitality are very much bound up in food - must be the amish in me
