Most of you probably aren't going to believe this, but on Saturdays, there were only three of us on staff at Kinko's, so when we ate in plain view of customers, most of them would actually apologize for bothering us on our lunch.

I know. Pick your jaws up off the floor.

We really didnt' have time for a lunch break. We'd order out and make the store pay (because we couldn't take a break due to understaffing), and then eat at the back work counter near the bindery.

Most people said "Oh, I'm sorry to bother you while you are eating."

    It suprised me, too.

my staff is 99% women, and they have no hesitation, whatsoever, in following me into the bathroom and trying to keep up a detailed conversation regarding work while I'm trying to do my 'personal business'.
Honestly, I don't believe in having conversations of ANY sort while anyone is using the facilities. That's just wrong. :shudder:

Yeah, actually, I think it is.

I remember one person asking us why didn't go on break. Wasnt' sucky about it, just curious. "Why are you all standing up in the back eating, it looks stressful" kind of thing.

"Cuz we are too busy to actually take a break today. It's okay, though, the store's buying."

"Oh. Okay. Sorry to be bothering you, then. "

"Thanks, but it's really okay. No problem. "

        I know, right?

Today the electronics specialist was telling us that while he was in the bathroom answering nature's call, a guy came in and started asking him questions about tracfones.

Specifically, if all we had was the stock on the shelf (people wanting wanting to buy tracfones above our limit of two per customer is a red flag).

Like I said before, this would have been an ideal time to have an attack of the Force 10 Pantsbusters.

I .. Well.. Um... Let loose the loudest fart of my life.
she asked a question and you answered; question asked, question answered, although, not as she expected.

i see no problem here, except for her not understanding the concept of 'ON BREAK.'

            look! it's ghengis khan!
Sorry, but while I can do many things, extracting heads from anuses isn't one of them. (so sayeth the irv)

I tried the "what? Sorry? I couldn't hear you over my peeing" stance, and they just thought it was funny...
VicSilver, I sure hope you are female also, else that would be just wrong in so many more ways...

Wow, that's not a bad deal at all. At the grocery store, we CS/office people can't ever really take breaks because, well, someone needs to be there to run the CS desk and nursemaid the cashiers. So we just watch the desk from inside the office (by camera) and pray we don't get interrupted toooo much. As you might guess, we have many varied levels of luck with this situation. And for us, the store never pays for food except for our Christmas party. However, this situation does save us from losing 30 minutes of pay for taking a break, so there is something good about eating on the clock.

I've never had anyone yell at me for eating, though. Heck, if I hurriedly walk out to help someone, still chewing that last bite, a lot of people do apologize for interrupting my dinner.

I'm a guy, and I hate it when someone, anyone, even my best friend, finds it necessary to talk to me while I'm draining the vein. It's bad enough at home when I have my kids trying to talk to me through the closed door.

On the other hand, what's really interesting is women I know will later on discuss with other employees what she and their friend talked about in the ladies room, while they were sitting in the stalls next to each other! Gross out city there!

Having an SC follow an employee into the restroom? Now there's something that is way beyond rude.

[QUOTE=Swordsman422;161064]I have similar trouble with trying to eat. We're understaffed so I can't actually take my legally provided half-hour for lunch or the store would grind to a halt, leaving the only other person there swamped. /[QUOTE]
What? This is not right, Hope you get extra pay for this...

P.S. If people try to interupt you on a break just don't speak. If they keep going on and on just firmly remind them that you are on break.
