Chikara Update 7/6

Three more matches have been announced for Chikara's Northeast tour later this month, as well as some clarification on the Campeonatos de Parejas situation. The Pieces of Hate's possession of the belts appears to have been accepted as a continuation of their interrupted reign from before the hiatus. The Throwbacks have also issued a challenge for the belts, but no match has yet been signed.

In Manhattan, the war with the Flood continues as Chikara's stalwart defenders from UltraMantis Black's neck of the woods will do battle with Sidney Bakabella's guns-for-hire. It will be The Spectral Envoy vs The Wrecking Crew in four-on-four atomicos action.

In Boston, Canada's boisterous duo of Scott Parker & Shane Matthews will battle, for the first time, against Sinn Bodhi's gang of circus freaks, in the form of the demented Oliver Grimsly and the creepy mime Qefka the Quiet. It will be 3.0 vs The Odditorium.

Also in Boston, the smooth sailin' gentleman of leisure will find himself in battle with a man who marches to the beat of his own off-synch drum. It will be singles action as we have Archibald Peck vs Ashley Remington.

Chikara Update 7/9

More matches coming out for the Northeast tour.

In Manhattan, the Egyptian team of Amasis & Ophidian are looking to get back on track after some nagging injuries have kept them from competing for points, and they have quite a tall order ahead of them as their first opponents will be the reigning Campeonatos de Parejas, Jigsaw & The Shard, in a non-title match. It will be The Osirian Portal vs The Pieces of Hate!

Speaking of points, a Four Corner Elimination match has been announced, and two teams are already named. First, Obariyon & Kodama of The Batiri will look to acquire points, as well as continue their quest for vengeance against the Flood. The Flood will be represented to start with by Dr. Cube's uber-minions, Haack n' Slaash. The remaining two teams have yet to be announced.

The line-up for the Spectral Envoy's team in the 4-on-4 atomicos match against the Wrecking Crew has been confirmed as UltraMantis Black, Hallowicked, Frightmare, and Blind Rage. Sidney Bakabella has not revealed which members of the Wrecking Crew will face them.

In Boston, Dasher Hatfield & Mr. Touchdown's challenge for the tag titles has been accepted. The two earned four points toward title contention-- earning pinfalls over GEKIDO, the Pieces of Hate, the Submission Squad, and the Odditorium since YOLT-- and are looking to take the Campeonatos de Parejas home with them. Jigsaw & The Shard, however, are confident that they'll retain the titles, and even with their allegiance to the Flood, they might not need them. It will be a 2-of-3 falls Campeonatos de Parejas match as The Pieces of Hate defend vs The Throwbacks!

During the "Ashes" videos, we saw two Ants get into a fight. At the Wrestle Factory, DeviANT sicced one of the Colony XTREME Force against his erstwhile comrade AssailANT when the latter refused to help him burn the building down. The fight ended inconclusively, and AssailANT has found acceptance with the Colony and remade himself into a heroic bruiser. Now that fight gets another go, as it will be Worker Ant vs Arctic Rescue Ant!

Chikara Update 7/15

With the shows in Manhattan and Boston this weekend, more matches are coming fast and furious.

In New York, a local street thug and former Grand Champion will collide for the first time ever with Ecuadorian aristocracy and current Top Banana Champion. It will be Eddie Kingston vs Juan Francisco de Coronado!

Also in New York, the war between the Ants continues to broil. On the one side, an all-American submissions expert. On the other, a cheap knock-off corporate cash-in (possibly made in China) with a rocket on his back. It will be Silver Ant vs Missile Assault Ant!

In Boston, the aforementioned rocket-powered ant will find himself going up against the high-flying "Spirit Dragon." It will be Shynron vs Missile Assault Ant!

For months now, the Estonian Thunderfrog, Latvian Proud Oak, and Lithuanian Snow Troll have been warring with the Polar Baron and his followers, the Proletariat Boar of Moldova, Mr. Azerbaijan, and the recently-debuted Prakash Sabar. After many matches, it seems they're preparing for an epic confrontation, with a stipulation yet to be revealed. It will be The Baltic Seige vs the Bloc Party! [sic]

Meanwhile, over in Wrestling Is Fun!, it's been announced who from the 2014 Wrestle Factory class will be making their debuts. To no one's surprise, one of them is the hot-blooded Kid Cyclone, and he'll be joined by the third man to wear the mask of Equinox. Finishing out the group are Hype Rockwell and "The Generator" Race Jaxon.

"The Living Daylights"
Manhattan, NY - July 19

1. Four Corners Survival - The Batiri def. The Colony, The Bloc Party, & Haack 'n Slaash to earn one point. The Colony was represented by Fire Ant & Worker Ant, while The Bloc Party were rep'd by the Proletariat Boar of Moldova & Mr. Azerbaijan. Haack 'n Slaash were the first team eliminated by The Batiri after the Colony did most of the work. After that, the Bloc Party and the Colony fought without tagging in the Batiri until the Colony eliminated the Bloc Party. The Batiri won after rolling up Fire Ant for the pin, and both teams shook hands after the match.

3.0 hosted a thumb-wrestling tournament.

2. Juan Francisco de Coronado def. Eddie Kingston with the Coronado Clutch. Kingston wasn't wearing his ring gear, and gave the impression that he didn't care too much about the match. One of the Flood's Plague Doctors was ringside, and it seemed the story being told was that Kingston could have destroyed JFDC at any time, but didn't either out of lack of interest or orders from the Flood to throw the match. JFDC hit Kingston with a German suplex before clamping on the Coronado Clutch, at which point King tapped out indifferently.

3. Missile Assault Ant def. Silver Ant by reversing a sleeper hold into a pinning predicament. During the match, Missile Assault Ant may have been knocked loopy.

4. The Flood def. The Throwbacks, The Baltic Seige & Jervis Cottonbelly via rollup. The Flood was represented by Sinn Bodhi and his Odditorium and the BDK's Tursas and Nøkken. The Seige was rep'd by Estonian Thunderfrog & Latvian Proud Oak. After the abrupt pin by Bodhi, it broke down into a huge brawl. Nøkken gave Jervis a huge chokeslam, and then Tursas hit him with a top-rope splash, treated as career-threatening. Then the Flood tried to do the same to Proud Oak, but he was pulled out of the ring as Tursas came off the top. Thunderfrog then delivered a blow with the Hammer of Peace from the top rope to Tursas' chest. This was the same move that "killed" the Brown Morning of Belarus in Wrestling Is Fun, and it was treated the same here.

5. The Pieces of Hate def. The Osirian Portal after The Shard hit Ophidian with a superkick to the groin before pinning him.

6. Magic Move Match - Ashley Remington def. Chuck Taylor with a German suplex. Before the match, they introduced a game whereby they'd pick a wrestling move out of a hat, and if that "magic move" was hit, the fans would win a prize. The move in question? A German suplex. The prize was stickers. Otherwise, it was the same match as from "You Only Live Twice." Again, Remington gave Taylor a fruit basket after the match.

7. The Spectral Envoy def. The Wrecking Crew when Frightmare tapped Blaster McMassive to the Chikara Special. The Wrecking Crew was rep'd by all three of the Devastation Corporation and Jaka. Oleg the Usurper was also ringside. Frightmare tried early with the Chikara Special on Blaster, but Oleg snuck in the ring and hit him with the Off With His Head, but Frightmare still kicked out. Then they tried to use Oleg's helmet as a weapon, but Frightmare took it away and used it on Blaster instead before tapping him to the Special. After the match, Sidney Bakabella yelled at Oleg, saying he'd screwed it all up.


Aftermath on social media-- Jervis Cottonbelly has confirmed he has three broken ribs on Twitter. Also, Nøkken has sworn revenge for what happened to Tursas and has declared "never-ending war" on Thunderfrog.


"The World Is Not Enough"
Revere, MA - July 20

1. 3.0 def. The Odditorium with the Sweet Taste o' Professionalism (assisted lungblower).

2. Ashley Remington def. Archibald Peck via submission, presumably with the Anchors Aweigh.

3. The Flood def. Gen-1 Originals & Osirian Portal by pinning Icarus. The Devastation Corporation took out Icarus to set up the victory.

4. Magic Move Match - Shynron def. Missile Assault Ant with a bottom rope 450 Splash. That was the "magic move" as well, so the audience wins stickers!

5. Campeonatos de Parejas Best-of-3-Falls Match - The Throwbacks def. The Pieces of Hate 2-1 to become the new Campeones de Parejas!
- First fall - Jigsaw scores the first fall with the Jig'n'Tonic.
- Second fall - Dasher Hatfield reverses a Jig'n'Tonic into a Yoshi Tonic for the second fall.
- Third fall - Throwbacks pin the Pieces of Hate!

6. Jervis Cottonbelly def. Eddie Kingston via disqualification. Kingston was in apathetic mode again, and didn't want to fight. The Plague Doctors did, however, and attacked Jervis for the DQ. Afterward, Jimmy Jacobs came over the intercom and talked to King about doing whatever it took to get "her" back. Kingston then DESTROYED one of the Plague Doctors and took his place. Eddie Kingston is now officially a member of the Flood.

7. Worker Ant def. Arctic Rescue Ant with the Pumphandle GTS.

8. Trios Elimination Flag Match - The Baltic Seige def. The Bloc Party, with Estonian Thunderfrog surviving from his team, last eliminating Mr. Azerbaijan with the Chikara Special. As a result of losing, the Bloc Party has to wave the flags of the Baltic nations.
- Elimination order: Lithuanian Snow Troll, Prakash Sabar, Latvian Proud Oak, Proletariat Boar of Moldova, Mr. Azerbaijan

After the main event, however, the Flood attacked Thunderfrog, and then Deucalion came out and destroyed Thunderfrog.

Chikara Update 7/27

No word yet on show names for the November shows announced in the Northeast. The November show names have been announced.

Chikara posted a thread on the 101 Forums with the Official Results for 2014. This definitively identified the Plague Doctor from the Detroit show's main event as "Volgar."

Some matches have been announced for Wrestling Is Fun's upcoming show, "Don't Eat The Green One." Current Top Banana Champion Juan Francisco de Coronado has issued an open challenge. Also, the 2014 Rookie Class of the Wrestle Factory will make their official debuts (in the Chikara-verse) at the show. The rookies consist of Kid Cyclone, Create-A-Wrestler (II), Argus, Equinox (III), Hype Rockwell, "The Generator" Race Jaxon.

It is presumed that Rockwell & Jaxon are a tag-team, based on a video message from them from last month. If they are the team in question, they'll be the ones in the match N_G_R vs Los Ice Creams. C-A-W will also be in action, taking on the porcine war-mongerer, as it will be Create-A-Wrestler vs The Proletariat Boar of Moldova.

mjr, what has me laughing right now is the fact that Total Nonstop Action Wrestling (TNA, aka Impact Wrestling) has gotten its TV contract with Spike TV effectively cancelled. Well, it won't be re-signed when it expires in October.

All because TNA had re-hired noted slimeball and wrestling cancer Vince "fucking" Russo, and tried to keep it a secret. They tried to keep it a secret from their workers, they tried to keep it a secret from Keiji Mutoh with Japan's Wrestle-1 promotion when they inked a deal for some cross-promotional match-ups (and Wrestle-1's assistance in hosting their "Bound For Glory" event in Japan later this year), and they tried to keep it a secret from Spike TV.

Then Russo accidentally cc'd someone from Pro Wrestling Insider on an email that outed him as working for TNA again, and it all went pear-shaped.

And I'm laughing with delicious schadenfreude.

Chikara Update 7/29-30
The titles of the November shows have been announced. The Nov. 15 show in Haverhill, MA is titled "On Her Majesty's Secret Service" and the Nov. 16 show in South Windsor, CT is titled "For Your Eyes Only", continuing the James Bond theme for the show names. Venues have not been announced.

Kid Cyclone's Chikara-verse debut match has been booked for Wrestling Is Fun's show "Don't Eat The Green One," where he will face Azerbaijan's Sexiest Guy, as it will be Kid Cyclone vs Mr. Azerbaijan.

The first match of Chikara's Quebec shows has been announced. In Quebec City, the leader of the band will go up against the Ecuadorian aristocrat. It will be Archibald Peck vs Juan Francisco de Coronado.

ETA: The first match of the August 17 show has been announced as well. Billed as an "uphill battle," the "Bled Island Butcher" of the Batiri continues to seek #Vengeance4Kobald by going up against the Norwegian Nightmare. It will be Kodama vs Nøkken.

Chikara-verse Update Week of 8/3
(I've decided to just keep updating one per week with Chikara-verse news. This post will cover updates made this week, and I'll continue updating the post at the top of the page with matches announced for upcoming events.)

Wrestling Is Fun's show "Don't Eat the Green One" was earlier today and results have started to come out from it. This post will be updated as details become available.

1. N_R_G def. Los Ice Creams
2. Proletariat Boar def. Create-a-Wrestler with the Boar Gore.

4. Kid Cyclone def. Mr. Azerbaijan with a Tornado DDT.
5. The Wrecking Crew def. Heidi Lovelace & 3quinox when Oleg hit Equinox with the Off with His Head.
6. Open Challenge - Juan Francisco de Coronado def. Hallowicked with the Coronado Clutch after clipping 'Wicked's leg with a flag.
7. Knight Eye For The Pirate Guy def. Pieces of Hate. Reports say that Jigsaw refused to fight Jolly Roger (his real-life brother), leading to a fight between him and Shard. 17 came out, but Jigsaw dissed him before leaving.

8/5 - Comic Art Community's Terry posted a well-researched article, Chikara: The Sequential Art Experiment, that describes and summarizes Chikara's history, from its origins pre-2002 to the present day.

The Quebec City show has what will probably be the main event added, as Chikara's Grand Champion joins forces with the Campeones de Parejas and Fire Ant & Worker Ant to take on the invaders once again. It will be Icarus, The Throwbacks, & The Colony vs The Flood at "Permis De Tuer."

The Montreal show has had two matches added. Icarus will defend the Grand Championship, although his opponent has not yet been announced. In addition, a rubber match between the 'Smooth Sailin'' nephew of Darkness Crabtree and the 'Kentucky Gentleman' has been announced. Taylor complained that his foot had been on the ropes when Remington won their match last month, to which Remington happily agreed to give him a rematch. Director of Fun Mike Quackenbush declared that, due to the controversial nature of the finish, the match's results would be expunged.

Quack has also announced that he has instituted a points system for the Grand Championship of Chikara, identical to the points system for the Campeonatos de Parejas: one point is awarded per fall scored, points are reset if a fall is lost, and three points puts you in line for a title shot. He declared points would be rewarded retroactively back to "You Only Live Twice." By that system, the only person currently in possession of three points is Juan Francisco de Coronado (having defeated Jervis Cottonbelly, Billy Roc, and Eddie Kingston).

8/7 - The Montreal show now has a Four-Corner Elimination tag match, with the first two teams announced. First are the devious dairy delinquents of Los Ice Creams, and secondly, two members of The Colony will take the field, although which pairing has not been announced.

In Quebec City, the powerful porcine pugilist goes up against the submission specialist in the Proletariat Boar of Moldova vs Silver Ant.

Chikara-verse Updates for the Week of 8/10

8/10 - Chikara affiliate Wrestling Is Fun has announced a free event on August 22, 2014. Taking place at First Energy Stadium in Reading, PA, and starting after the Fightin Phils ballgame ends, the WIF wrestlers will be putting the name out there and trying to attract new fans. Two matches have been announced for the free event, as well, as the 'Old Timey King of Swing' goes up against the Ecuadorian aristocrat, with Dasher Hatfield vs Juan Francisco de Coronado. In the other announced match will see the 'Kentucky Gentleman' lock tusks with the 'Gore-Lord', with Chuck Taylor vs The Proletariat Boar of Moldova.

8/10 - The Montreal show has another big trios match announced, as Sidney Bakabella's gang of out-of-control mercenaries-- represented by the Devastation Corporation's Max Smashmaster & Flex Rumblecrunch, along with the savage Jaka, go up against Canada's time-traveling trio. It will be 3Peck0 vs The Wrecking Crew in Montreal!


8/12 - Two more matches have been announced for Chikara's Quebec debut shows. In Quebec City, the "Smooth Sailin'" gentleman of leisure will collide with the "Bled Island Butcher," as it will be Ashley Remington vs Kodama! In Montreal, the Chikara-vs-Flood war faces another major battle, in a "relevos atomicos" (four-on-four ) match. Defending Chikara are the Campeonatos de Parejas in Dasher Hatfield & Mr. Touchdown, and two-thirds of 2012's King of Trios champions in UltraMantis Black & Hallowicked. Representing the Flood will be the team of 17 & The Shard along with knockoff ants Missile Assault Ant & Orbit Adventure Ant. It will be The Throwbacks & Spectral Envoy vs GEKIDO & Colony: XTREME Force in Montreal!

8/12 - A video surfaced as a tribute to the fallen Estonian Thunderfrog. But by the end of the video, a pair of hands was glimpsed picking up the Hammer of Peace. Speculation is running rampant about who was deemed "worthy" enough to lift the Hammer.

8/12 - Jimmy Jacobs released a blog on ChikaraPro.com, quietly mocking Chikara's fans "smartest fans in the world" status and confirming that he is aiming to acquire three points for Grand Championship contention, and that he has lured Eddie Kingston to his side by promising him the Grand Championship in return for aiding the Flood.


8/14 - A Four Corner Elimination Tag match has been announced for Quebec City. The four teams announced are The Osirian Portal, a team called Kickin n' Stompin, The Flood's Jaka & Qefka the Quiet, and The Spectral Envoy. No word on which two of the Envoy will be in the match, nor who the members of Kickin n' Stompin are. EDIT: Consulting Cagematch.net, Kickin n' Stompin are a local Quebec team, consisting of Ivan Sullivan & Razen.

8/14 - The remaining two teams for the Montreal Four Corner Elimination Tag match have also been announced. Once again, The Osirian Portal will be in the match (meaning the Portal could acquire six points by the end of the weekend), and the last team is called The McGoths, but like Kickin n' Stompin, no word has been given on who they are. EDIT: It appears that the McGoths are a local team in Quebec, a masked team consisting of Bloodlust McGoth & Spooky McGoth. Cagematch.net lists their most recent match as being in 2008, however.

8/14 - Dasher Hatfield posted a blog on ChikaraPro.com, explaining his bond with his fellow Chikara wrestlers, stemming from their joining together at National Pro Wrestling Day 2014 to drive off the Flood's forces on that day, and knowing that they all fight for something bigger than themselves. He also called into question how deep the Flood's bonds run, and what they're fighting for.

4. The Shard vs Eddie Kingston ended in disqualification. The match was allegedly made as punishment for The Shard for losing the Campeonatos de Parejas. There was a lot of interference involved. The Baltic Seige came out at one point, and then Deucalion emerged to kill the Latvian Proud Oak. The Lithuanian Snow Troll begged for his life, but Deucalion had him clapped in chains and gave him to Jimmy Jacobs.

5. Juan Francisco de Coronado def. Archibald Peck. JFDC has four points to Grand Championship contention.

6. 3.0 def. Colony: XTREME Force

7. Icarus, The Throwbacks & Fire Ant & Worker Ant def. The Flood. The Flood was represented by Jimmy Jacobs, Max Smashmaster, Flex Rumblecrunch, Nøkken, and 17.

Chikara-verse Updates for the week of 8/17

8/18 - More matches for Wrestling Is Fun's free event after the Fightin' Phils ballgame at First Energy Stadium in Reading, PA have been announced. The 'Master of the Snake Style' and one of the rookies will team up against the devious dairy delinquents as it will be Los Ice Creams vs Ophidian & Argus. And it may be a #hossdivision collision as the barbaric warlord goes up against the 'Black & Blue Bruiser' as it will be Oleg the Usurper vs Worker Ant.

8/18 - No official word from Chikara Pro yet, but Britain's Tidal Championship Wrestling has announced that the trio of Mark Andrews, Pete Dunne & Damian Dunne will be participating in King of Trios 2014.
