The manager checked with the local police and printed the best frames of the three out and posted them up in the windows, which ended up being how they were caught, someone in their own family ended up turning them in.

Ha! That's brilliant. I bet it was either a parent trying to teach them a lesson or a jealous sibling trying to get rid of them. My mom would probably do that just out of principle. You get in trouble with the law, you damn well better fix it up with the law.

Having rolled on the floor with plenty of shoplifters I can tell you that the worst people to try and detain are women.

They dont fight.

They gouge, they squeeze, they scratch, they bite, they pull.

Men on the other hand punch, kick and flail around pathetically, always, always go for the chap!

This amuses me only because one of the one million and one reasons I despise our current LP is because he has said he will ONLY go after women. He has come to the conclusion that he doesn't get paid enough to risk fighting men. He feels women are more passive when caught so he'll only stop women.

I thought he was just saying it to be a jerk until one day I had to go up to the office to be a witness. I happened to see a clipboard hanging on the wall with a list of names of people he's caught. All female names. I ranted to management about it and all they did was make sure I wasn't asked to be a witness anymore.

When I worked in retail, we weren't allowed to do anything more physically than guide them to our LP office if we caught them. However, once they were outside the store, we were allowed to tackle and subdue. If we had a situation, we'd put someone outside the doors to go Linebacker on their butts. We just had to make sure we didn't break whatever it was they tried to steal.

Ya know, I think it would be a great idea for every store to do what the porn store around here does:

Takes a polaroid of every caught shoplifter. Posts them all up on the wall. Where everyone can see.

Have their name and what they stole written on there.

man I wish we could get physical and all that I had a group of four come in today I called the police had discriptions and a licence plate but they couldnt do any thing cuz we didnt have it on tape. Its so fustrating! Worse thing is that they had already been caught once at one of our other stores.
