So today I got up my nerve and went in to ask the Big Guy at the law firm what the chances were of my being kept on after Christmas.
Turns out he was going to speak to me about it after he returned from a week's absence next week.
And the chances are "high."
Not only that, but I'll be getting a small raise.
AND this is pretty much indefinite, unless I (a) find another job, or (b) really screw something up.
The slight downside is that this is parttime and likely to remain so for the foreseeable future ... 3 days per week. But that's okay.
He said he is more than happy to continue working with The Mothership in terms of scheduling.
I'm not sure that The Mothership is willing to keep working along this schedule, since I was hired there on the basis that I could work day shifts. But we shall see. I am not in any fever of anxiety over it. For one thing, I'm becoming increasingly tired of going to the office (in the centre of the city) first thing in the morning, and then having to rush off back to the east end -- well past where I live -- to deal with the overwhelming chaos that is The Mothership. Among other things, I seem to be assigned strictly to 'Customer Support' (read: cleanup) virtually every shift. If I'm lucky, I might get some time on the till. Bar training seems to have vanished.
And secondly, I have applied for early Canada Pension, which I hope will start in March. That, together with this job, will provide me with enough to get along until I can find another supplemental job.
Anyway, this is the best early Christmas present I've had in a long time.
