  • when I tell you no, it means NO!

    This happened last Sunday.

    A black woman (race is relevant) approached me and said that she wanted to buy a camera. I pulled the camera out of the security case and brought it up to the register. This is what occurred next.

    Me = Me
    SC = Sucky Customer

    SC: "Since you don't have a display, I want to open this to see what it looks like."
    Me: "I'm sorry, but we're not allowed to open the product before selling." (I was about to tell her that I could call a manager who might be able to open it for her, but she interrupted me.)
    SC: "That's a lie!" *grabs box from my hand and starts opening it*
    Me:
    Me: *grabs box from SC and places it behind register* "Ma'am, we are NOT allowed to open product before purchase."
    SC: "I want to see a manager! That's discrimination!"

    I called for the MOD and the SC left a few moments later to find her. MOD dealt with her at a different register so I didn't have to come into contact with her again.

    Afterwards, while comparing notes, MOD told me that she had almost laughed in the customer's face when she accused me of discrimination. (I get along with all of our managers, and they know that I am always very polite)

        Who wants to bet that she would have rummaged through the packaging to the point where it would have been nearly impossible to repack and still be presentable enough to sell?

        By the way, welcome to CS, toy guy

            And then she wouldn't have bought it. Or would have requested an unopened box.

              My mom is the same way. Though mostly the case with socks. For expensive items she doesn't ask for the box to be open, looking at the model is fine.

              But wow, that woman just grabbed the box! EW.

                Discrimination?!? Um did she happen to see you happily, willingly and smilingly allow another customer to rummage through the package. I'm guessing no. Which would mean that you're applying a rule to all customers. Which would mean that you are giving the same treatment to everyone. Which would mean that she is a complete fucking tool.

                There's a number of things that she could (wrongfully) say at that point. Discrimination is about the most incorrect of them all. What a pitiful little existence she must endur, blaming all of her problems and troubles on imaginary racism.

                    New store policies required?

                    If you open it, you've bought it.

                        Honestly... when I go to Besy Buy. I always open the package in store... But I wait till I've purchased the product before I do, and if necessary I ask an associate to watch me open it.

                        Cause I've opened discs (games, DVD's, CD's) and they were scratched to complete hell cause they came undone on their spindel in the cases.

                        It makes returning them much easier if you've never left the property.

                          The ironic thing is, she probably would have gotten her way if she had just let me finish talking. That particular brand of cameras doesn't put seals on its packaging, and my manager probably would have given me the OK to open it.
