Apparently I picked the wrong day to get my hair cut. There's a place near my house, and if I go in during the week, especially in the daytime, it's usually not busy and I can go right in and right out. And since I get to work from home on Tuesdays now, I figured I'd walk over during my lunch break.
When I got there, almost all the seats in the waiting area were filled. I was hoping that they weren't all waiting to get their hair done, and that some of them were just waiting for someone, but I was told it would be close to an hour. So I put my name in, and walked somewhere to get lunch.
I came back from lunch and sat down, and noticed this one woman who was getting her hair done was talking loudly about all her personal problems with the lady who was doing her hair. Oh, maybe a little annoying, but no big deal. Some guys unload on their bartenders, and some women vent to their hairdressers. Then the customer's cell phone went off and she had the lady stop so she could take the call, much to the annoyance of me and the other people who were waiting. And it wasn't just a quick, "I'll have to call you back", she went on and on for several minutes.
They finally finished doing her hair, and I thought it was all over. If it was, I probably wouldn't even bother posting. They gave her the bill, and she flipped out. "$28? Why is it $28? It was always $15 before!" Nothing at that place is $15. Even a simple haircut is $17, so I call bullshit on that one. The lady explained to her what all was done, and what the cost of each thing was, but it did no good. "But why is it $28? It was always $15 before!" The manager then came up and went over it with her, and the whole thing repeated.
Finally, the customer just said, "Here's $20!", threw a bill down on the counter, and walked out the door. The manager told her, "It's $28", but the customer just ignored her and kept walking.
It was my turn next, and as luck would have it, I got the same lady who had been doing the problem customer's hair. I joked with her about how I promised not to take a phone call in the middle of the haircut (I did get a text a little bit later, but I didn't hold things up), and then short-change them. She told me that that customer had been in several times before, and never acted that way until then. But she told me, "I don't think she'll be back." If she does come back, I hope they refuse her service until she pays them the $8 she owes them, or bans her outright.
