O- is the rarest AND universal donor (How's that for a kick in the ass...?) AB is the universal recipient. Greedy bastard.

Correction: in the ABO Rh+/- system AB- is the rarest.
In the U.S. in order of rarity:

      O+ 37.4%
      A+ 35.7%
      B+ 8.5%
      O- 6.6%
      A- 6.3%
      AB+ 3.4%
      B- 1.5%
      AB- 0.6%

      Type O = OO
Type A = AA or AO
Type B = BB or BO
      Type AB = AB
      Rh+ = ++ or +-
      Rh- = --

      In this population:
83% of type A are carriers of type O.
95% of type B are carriers of type O.
56% of x+ are carriers of -. As an example:

My dad tests O+. My mom tests B-. I test O-.
Therefore I am OO--, my dad is OO+- and my mom is BO--

Does your mom know you tell the internet she has BO?

How'd I know Whiskey would go there?

          I just did.

Like I said, I didn't know for sure, I just know that O- is rather rare in comparison to other types, and if I ever need a transfusion, I have to have type specific. Which sucks. I can give to anyone else, but not everyone can give to me. That's the short end of the stick.

's OK. Considering she had 10 kids, maybe I should have said OB.

              My ex is an AO--...

                Yes and yes.

My husband is not allowed to donate b/c he lived in Germany in the 80s. I wish I were lying. Lol. He was an Army brat and apparently that area had beef that was "possibly" contaminated with CJD..which is basically the human form of Mad Cow disease. So he cant donate, EVER.

We have a running joke that we're waiting for him to drop dead any minute b/c he ate tacos.
I completely forgot about that. For some reason, Australia is only picky about if you've lived in the UK between 80-96. (that stops you from donating)

The other things that stop you from donating in Australia are if you've injected yourself with an illicit drug EVER, you have leukaemia/lymphoma/myeloma (or had it), or you had a heart attack. There are a few other medical conditions that also preclude donation.
