According to an MIT study, we are all connected by a single common ancestor who lived around 300BC. Not necessarily descended from, but related to. Which makes us all 50th cousins.

My mother does all the lineage stuff and most of our ancestry on her side in the US goes back to New York in the 1800's. My biological father's line actually goes back to pre-colonial Virginia.

One of my cousin's wives on my Dad's side traced back our grandmother's (Dad's mother) ancestors . . . trail went back 12 generations to Peregrine White.

No royalty, just a lot of people who either invented things or punched them very very hard. Both sides of the family have had SOMEONE in the military in each generation going as far back as anyone can find. Mind you... both generations seem intent on outbreeding Japan, so at this point I've got connections to pretty much everything.
