    They, incidentally, have found a more legal way to be thrifty- they share a soda, with two straws and everything.
    Say it with me now:

    AWWWWWWWWW!

    Shucks, but I'm a sucker for stuff like that...

      I'm one step down from that. Actually, mom is. Mom and I would go to a store offering senior discount. So let's say we go to a restaurant. She would want my food and her food at senior discount. She'll pay,though. Then she wants to use coupons at Long John Silvers and get a senior discount.

      My mom is one who will take all the Splenda. I will hide it before she sits down so she can't still them, and I put them back when we leave.

        I confess, I've been swiping equal packets for years. I picked it up from my dad. We did it so that we could take the equal to other places and use it there. We're addicted to mixing sweet'n'low and equal together. Much better than either one alone. I was raised on saccharin and aspartame, sugar's not sweet enough for me. Oh, and HFCS-sweetened drinks have a nasty aftertaste. So there!

        We buy our own equal now though, as when we started making coffee at home our usage skyrocketed, and our thievery couldn't keep up.

          not only did my grandfather take sugar packets (he would ask for two and only use one) he acutallt emptied the sugar into a sugar jar when he got home!

          I dont call taking the sugar packets or creamers or jams and peanutbutters thrifty

          I call it theft!

            My dad does borrow a few sugar packets and similar things when given the opportunity. But he doesn't empty the whole tray of them. They come in handy for the car, apparently.

              *raises eyebrow* What is this woman doing, hanging them up on her wall?

              'Cause nothing says style like grocery bags that match your kitchen. Grey must have been too tacky.

              I can beat that; the carrier bags at my local supermarket went from white to orange... and this woman put in a complaint cuz *gasp!* they didn't match her kitchen! She must have wanted to hang them up on her wall, and couldn't cuz they didn't match.
              I think that the woman has one of those small bins rather than a big bin like what I have...think about the size of a wastebasket but a bit bigger. And it needs to match that....I dunno.

              Lace, that is priceless!

                There was something like this at the bank where I used to work. My branch had installed one of those My Flavia machines in the bank lobby. This machine became so popular, but in particular with the old folks. We also placed several sugar caddies for packages of sugar, Splenda, Sweet N Low, and Equal, as well as creamers and coffee stirrers.

                One day a cute personal banker came to my window and told me quietly while pointing to an older lady who had just left my window:

                PB=Personal banker
                Me=Me, "Silas"

                PB: Hey, Silas! Do you see that lady who just left your window?
                Me: Yeah, so?
                PB: I was keeping an eye on her because every time she comes in here, she makes herself a cup of coffee and stuffs her purse full of sugar packages. I know because I can see her directly from my office.
                Me: Oh, normally she comes all sweet with me but I guess that explains it all!
