    In my hometown there was an odd quirk: burning yard waste was verboten, but a recreational bonfire was OK--no permit required. So guess how we got around that restriction when pruning and/or burning fall leaves.

      Yeah, some of these regulations are a bit silly, but it's probably because some idiot was careless with his fire and caused a lot of damage.
