Sorry I forgot that racist types generally don't know what they're talking about. All they'd have to do is read the history of the French/Indian war to know that europeans were big on scalping at the time.

Oh, hell, back in the 400s BCE, the Scythians were pretty big on it, too. So were the Visigoths, Franks, and the Anglo-Saxons! Which could make for all kinds interesting come-backs for the "scalped" comment that Juwl got!

Honestly, most people don't even equate "scalping" with the removal of a person's scalp any more. These day's it has a much different application. Mostly in reference to re-selling tickets at a usurious markup.

Oh, and while it may be true that it was a hobby for some in Europe, most references agree that it had fallen completely out of practice long before the events of the French/Indian war.

Without the 'Go to the casino' bit, it's something I might say intending to refer to either stereotypical 'cowboys and indians' movies, or to ancient European history. Thoughtless, perhaps, but with no racism intended. Pop-culture reference intended, instead.

Adding the 'Go to the casino' bit? That tips it right over into clear, overt racial reference. And to modern Indians, not even the partly-mythical*, partly-real historic scalping. No ambiguity.

Sorry for the threadjack but. Both sides in the French Indian war got their Indian allies to scalp their fallen victims to collect the bounty. Before that the locals weren't doing it at all. (western tribes may have been I've never bothered to look it up)

None of the casinos where I've been "scalped" were run by native Americans. The concept of getting "scalped" in a casino applies to all casinos, not just the indian casinos.

One of the darker moments of US history is the Sand Creek Massacre. Some accounts I have read of that event tell of the soldiers scalping the indians.
