  • Fake Credit card

HA I made an awesome difference in someone's life. Dunno whose but yay me!

Okay this guy comes up to me (nothing out of the ordinary) to do a credit card transaction where I ask for the card he used and his ID.

He presented both and I stared at it for a bit. Something was *very* wrong with it... The bin numbers were scratched off and the ones I could make out did NOT match the card. I told him something was wrong with my computer and that I would be right back.

I ran into the back and showed my Supervisor. She agreed that it was indeed not right.

She called the company and they too agreed that it was in fact a fraudulent credit card!

Now this process took like twenty mins and the guy STAYED and was getting mad and making a huge scene. What crook makes a scene? He finally caught one of my co workers and demanded his stuff back.

We have no right to hold his stuff (which I think is BS) security was not called, survelliance was not notified and we didn't take any copies of anything! I think that's stupid.

The only thing that made me yay is the fact that he could not get the money. He requested 2000.

Now anybody think he'd come back? Of course he did!

He came back the next day on a different shift but got busted then too. Still NOTHING was done or reported BUT he could not get any money either. Another 2k. And he called my co worker a bitch for not doing it. What a tool.

I wish they'd call metro or something but no they just let him walk so he can scam another casino. *sigh* But at least I did something to stop him.

And did I get any kind of "good job" or "great catch?" Nope. Management didn't give a shit. Thanks. But I know I did something right so they can kiss my ass.

That law really needs to be changed. Stupid laws..

I would think it illegal not to be allowed to report a crime in progress...

I would imagine if it was a stolen or copied card belonging to someone else then it would be different maybe?

I'd imagine the head honchos really don't care where the money comes from as long as it ends up on the tables

They should care. In this case, the money would have come from an altered credit card (i.e. the account didn't belong to the person trying to use it), so when the actual cardholder found out, the fraudulent transaction would be charged back to the casino.

The temptation to have an 'accident' with a shredder, hole punch or scissors would be terrible for me.

I'm surprised you can't do anything about it. Well done on catching it though - a £2k chargeback would be horrible (let alone the poor person on the other end of the fraudulently linked account!)
I am so SO glad I was not present for this. There would have been an unpleasant duct tape incident. - Joi

              OK, I give up.
Why hasn't this been banned? He's repeatedly tried to scam your casino out of $2K and insulted the staff, so why in heaven's name is he still allowed access in the first place?
I'm trying to see things from your point of view, but I can't get my head that far up my keister!

In our state the issuing credit card bank can tell us to keep and destroy the card. But if they don't say that then the card has to returned as declined with no reason given.

I would've called the cops, there's no way in hell I'd let the guy leave if he came in with an illegal credit card.

Better yet . . . why haven't the guys with the bent noses caught up with him yet?

                    Or have they????

But as for not being able to hang onto the fraudulent card . . . I don't get this. When I witnessed a guy try to pass a fake $10 bill in a gas station a couple of years ago, the clerk not only hung onto the bill but demanded the guys driver's license and openly admitted he was planning to call the cops.

Sort of related, and a good tip for anybody running a cash register : Never hand-key a credit card. If it doesn't scan ask for some other form of payment.

Apparently the fake or stolen card scammers are out again locally. Hit one of our stores for $200 in gift cards. This was so important to LP they held a huddle the other day to mention this.
