  • gee, i never would have guessed that. thanks.

    Counting lessons, part deux:

    Me: Hi, how many tonight?
    Stupid woman: Six.
Me: Do you need any children's menus?
Stupid woman: *blank stare* Wh-what did you say?! (she's a touch indignant...like I pried into her private life or something)
Me: Are there going to be any children in your party of six?
Stupid woman: Yes! So we need one children's menu.
Me: (muttering) That's what I was trying to ask you. *starts to retrieve the children's menu when...*
Stupid woman: (loudly, obviously to me) So we need five adult menus. And one children's menu, which makes six.
Me: *rolls eyes* (mutters under my breath) Gee, I never would have deduced that, thanks Count.

I don't think this woman realized that by telling me that 5+1=6, she was adding up not only six, but a lot of painful moments for herself.

    Good grief.

She was trying to be helpful, you know. Since, as we all know, none of us have "real jobs", we can't count and need all the help we can get.

      Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.

I wonder if the child's menu was for her.

I think even the child's menu is too complicated for people like her. She was one of those people who would point and grunt to order. Not exactly the sharpest tool in the shed. But hey, at least she could count to six. I have to give her a couple of brownie points for that. However, they are then retracted when she tries to pass on her knowledge to me in a "holier-than-thou" way.
