  • THIS IS A WASTE OF TIME; DON'T BOTHER

Day three of vacation looks like a total loss.

It snowed overnight--don't know how much but it did stick to the roads and snow tires--which our rental vehicle does not have-- are required to get into Yellowstone.

Guess it will be wandering around town and sitting in the hotel room all day.

Looking at the webcams, they didn't get a lot of snow, but the park has narrow mountain roads (one lane each direction and no shoulder in a lot of places.) Even a small amount of snow can make things bad in a hurry. It sucks that this weird weather has ruined your trip. Let's hope the weather clears suddenly and you can get in for a little while.

Frankly, I wish I were there ... I'd loooooove snow in May ... but I'm sorry your vacation seems to be getting seriously bludgeoned by Mother Nature. Hope it clears up quickly and you can get out and about!

Have you considered buying chains at a place you can return them to if you don't use them? Wally world will do that, and some of the tire places (I think Les Schwab is the one that even advertises that around here). If you use them, it'd be worth the cost of they're fairly standard (often as low as $30) and if you don't use them, but just have them "in case" to meet the law, you can return them.

          Madness takes it's toll....

There are places that will rent chains.

Never mind, we got into the park later in the morning. Of course we then got stuck behind a herd of 30-40 buffalo going to the road in front of us with a ranger escort.

Took us an hour and a half to get past them. The ranger was not allowing any traffic in our lane to pass him and not making any effort to direct the buffalo off the road. Then again these are wild animals we're talking about and they don't act in predictable ways. Got some good pictures though.

Oh yeah, and coming back saw even more idiots getting way way too close to buffalo, just so they could snap their pictures.

I would have been surprised if this hadn't been the case.

Haha. I don't have to travel to see buffalo. There's a bunch of them at the park just a couple of miles back in town. I used to take Bear the dog there a lot, but she's getting so old and can't handle very long walks or a lot of excitement much anymore, so once it's not so warm out during the day, I'm just going to go there by myself. They have zebras now too
