  • Wish bf would actually watch the movie

My bf has a habit of either playing a game on his laptop or doing his work on his desktop while watching a movie. So I'm watching the movie with him, but because he is preoccupied he has to ask me what is going on. Like now we are watching "Suck" and the band is crossing the border for a gig. The band a scene earlier were talking about going to Canada for a gig, and there is even a map showing the city they are leaving to the next city they are going.

So he is asking, as the band is at the border at a border booth, where are they going.

I was so annoyed having to explain it. Then a minute latter there was a funny image of one of the band members in front of an American flag, just like the cover of Born in the USA. I comment on it, he said he missed it. He says to rewind. I pick up the remote and have to remove my glasses to see better and he asks me, "do you know how to do it." (rewinding the movie) of course I blow up on him because, as I tell him, "it's not rocket science."

But this is what happens a lot. He is not paying attention and asks me what is going on. I have to ask him, "why arn't you watching the movie?"

Oh yes, he is the asshole, when bored of the movie at the movie theater, will be looking at his phone.
Time! Time! Time is what turns kittens into cats.

Don't teach me a lesson; all I learn is that you are an asshole.

    I wish porn had subtitles.

There's a special place in hell for people who don't pay attention while watching a movie.

My mother was annoying that way, except with her it was hearing. She couldn't hear anything on the damn tv and would be saying "what did they say" every 5 seconds till I wanted to scream. This was before captions were a thing, I really wish we had them back then.

If he wasn't constantly asking you what happened and asking you to rewind it, I wouldn't see a problem with playing a game or looking at his phone while watching a movie. I do that sometimes, too, when the movie is slow or if it's more dialogue than visuals. But if I miss something, I know it's my own fault. I don't expect my fiance to rewind it or explain it. Also, I would never pull out my phone at the movie theater. That is disrespectful to the other moviegoers.

I've also been using subtitles more, depending on the show. Between my hearing starting to go and some shows having bad sound levels, it's very helpful.
"I look at the stars. It's a clear night and the Milky Way seems so near. That's where I'll be going soon. "We are all star stuff." I suddenly remember Delenn's line from Joe's script. Not a bad prospect. I am not afraid. In the meantime, let me close my eyes and sense the beauty around me. And take that breath under the dark sky full of stars. Breathe in. Breathe out. That's all."

I watch tv and movies with closed captioning. Most of the time I don't know what is being said*. My bf though does'nt like cc. It distracts him; what really happens is he reads too slow. I can read and listen at the same time without getting confused. Though I don't like cc for live tv, the news and news comedies like Real Time with Bill Maher or Last Night Tonight with John Oliver because the cc can't keep up with the newscasters/comedians.

How slow he reads? took him a year to read The Hobbit. Back when The Battle of the Five Armies came out, I decided to read that part of the book before we went to to movie. 50 pages took me 1 hour to read. He still hasn't finished reading ASoIaF, and he started reading the series back when season 3 started. I don't know what books he's on, but I rememeber him asking me questions that start off as, "have they gotten that far in the books?"

*Like in The Last Jedi, Poe was calling Hux "General Hugs" and I wasn't getting the joke because I just thought he was calling Hux "Hux". Also, I remember watching Kingdom of the Crystal Skull back in 2008 or whenever it came up and I thought they were calling Shia LaBouef's character "Mud". Had to watch at home with cc to find out he was being called "Mutt".

The only reason people read slow is because they don't practice! I read very fast, and always have. I also read aloud very fast, while other people do it so slow it drives me nuts. I'm in two book clubs, and in one of them we're reading the Villian Disney book series, which are middle school level books. I can read one in a day and others still aren't done after a month!
