  • Anyone interested in a Christmas Card exchange this year?

The title says it all. I always enjoy it and hope it will continue.

I'd love to do it again this year.
Eh, one day I'll have something useful here. Until then, have a cookie or two.

I've brought it up with the other mods. We'll update as soon as we have something solid, i.e., have the right people and files in place.

            I'm interested, as always

You could always microwave the envelope before opening. Just hope no one sends metallic glitter.

Count me in. I had a lot of fun with it last year.
"I look at the stars. It's a clear night and the Milky Way seems so near. That's where I'll be going soon. "We are all star stuff." I suddenly remember Delenn's line from Joe's script. Not a bad prospect. I am not afraid. In the meantime, let me close my eyes and sense the beauty around me. And take that breath under the dark sky full of stars. Breathe in. Breathe out. That's all."

I was just thinking about this the other day. It's been a couple years since I did it but I'd be up for it this year.
I would have a nice day, but I have other things to do.

I've never done it. Is it fun, and how much does it tend to end up costing?

I've always enjoyed it, as have a number of others. Interest was down last year, but, on average, you can expect to send out 25~35 cards (About $15~18 for postage), with 3~4 being international (another US$1.10 each i think?) and the rest, to the US.

Note that the cards need not be XMAS-specific, nor even holiday specific at all – They are really just something to send out to fellow CS'ers to brighten their day. They need not even be greeting cards, per se; home-made and hand-drawn or printed are fine, ditto postcards, etc. Some folks include little bonus items such as stickers or tiny little ornaments, but nobody is required to.

Our one requirement is that everyone who signs up MUST send out a card/etc to everyone else on the list; the only real penalty for not sending any out at all is not being allowed to participate going forward, though we do allow for unexpected circumstances. We have an initial sign-up period, and then we allow 3(ish) weeks to change your mind with no excuse required, but if you're still on the list as of the last opt-out day, you're expected to send something out within a reasonable time frame. The final cards have often arrived as late as February, especially for international missives.

I was going to ask about the exchange this year. I'd love to keep it going as a little bit of (relative) normalcy
