  • Anyone else feel like their store is a soap opera?

So, Security Guard X has just been moved to a another store in the chain (in a REALLY bad area) because he was in a relationship with staff member A. It's a no-go between security/management and staff. Less than year ago a manager was moved for the same thing, as was a senior security manager- his girlfriend works in the cash office so they were horrified in case they had a scam going or something.

Staff member B has worked in footwear for 20 years, since the store opened. She's pushing 40. Staff member C has worked in goods inwards for the same time period. They've been having an affair for years and years, the funny thing is that his wife works in Head Office, which is across the street literally and they're ALWAYS in ths store. She ran out crying from work 5 years ago when told the wife was pregnant.

Staff member D works in menswear, he has a child with a girl who used to work in the store. He's now in an on-off relationship with E, who used to work in grocery before she was fired for eating pringles in the stockroom. D and E have an extremely destructive relationship and every staff night out results in drama, occassionally with the ex ringing up E screaming abuse. D has also been kicked out of 2 staff christmas parties for selling coke and getting into fights.

Staff member F has scored (right dunno what the word you lot would use..made out?) with 7 girls from the store. In a relationship with the last, he humiliated her to such an extent that she kept running off the floor in tears and even the store manager knew.

G and H having worked together for 3 years, both in relationships, are now together and have a baby

Currently a love triangle in the homewares department and killings in ladieswear between two girls who fancy F...

Better than a soap opera really.

Ah they'd be too smart to get involved with a night out and much too tight to spring money for it. All christmas parties and all nights out are organised by staff members by themselves. The first was in a function room of a hotel. The third was in a nightclub.

Oooo-kay...tune in tomorrow for the continuing saga of "The Workplace."

And people wonder why I stay in the cube. Thankfully, I have yet to see anything soap-worthy. Not even a pointy-haired boss or a Bill Lumbergh questioning about TPS reports and whether of not I got a memo.

I never saw any of it directly - my presence seems to calm things down dramatically - but when I was in the USAF, at each of my duty stations, I heard stories of what had gone before.

The hands down winner was my second station. The Chief Sergeant was relatively new as well, because his predecessor had been caught in the detachment, in flagrante dilecto with one of the female airmen.

That's definitely worse than my place.

          Here's my work set-up:

CWs A and B are siblings. B is a convicted felon we hired straight out of prison. He used to be a pot dealer before he moved on to meth and got busted. (He's actually a really awesome guy and has been clean for about half a decade now. He always points out his former customers so we can be on alert if they try anything on our property.)

CWs C and D are husband and wife.

CWs E and F are mother and daughter-in-law.

So yes, it can make for interesting dramas at times.

There's not much in the way of drama at my work.

Mostly it's the fact that Bosslady and Bossman are married, and he can be a bit of an ass at times, so they have frequent bouts of yelling.

Honestly, they do really well for a couple that spends so much time in together. Nekojin works in the same building, but we don't have a lot of interaction while working, since we're in mostly-unrelated departments.

The only drama I can recall from my previous job was this one guy that got busted for downloading porn at work. And I'm not talking about soft porn here, I'm talking about hardcore freaky borderline illeagle stuff. (I'm very open minded, but some of the stuff this guy had made me shudder)

This guy was a regular Charlie Church family man, boy scout leader, you know, the one you would least expect. Rather than humiliate him and fire him on the spot, they gave him the option to "resign" so no one had to know. Wonder how he explained it to his wife?

"We don't have a gold plated toilet"
"Oh dear, I think I just peed in your Tuba"
