Finally back at work after two weeks off due to the flu.
Just my luck ... I was on the express lane yesterday AND today.
However, today had its compensations ...
For some reason, shortly after the store opened, the order came down from on high: put all small seedless watermelons on sale at 96 cents each.
So not surprisingly, a lot of customers were grabbing them.
Then one lady came through and I was chatting with her, and in the process told her about the good deal on the watermelons.
Customer: "What?? NINETY-SIX CENTS EACH??"
Me: "Yep. I'm not a huge fan of watermelons but for that price I think I'll get one myself."
Customer takes her groceries and leaves and I forget about the conversation.
Five minutes later, here she comes again ... wheeling one of the smaller buggies that is loaded down with a veritable Mount Everest of watermelons.
She tells me she works at a local school and these will make GREAT snacks for the kids.
A couple of other customers sounded interested -- but nobody else to this degree.
