What does "Tax exempt" mean? I know what the words mean, but who might be tax exempt in Canada, and why? I live in America, and there isn't anyone who doesn't pay sales tax. They might be able to weasel out of yearly income tax, but at the register, everyone pays...

Anyone who has a vendors permit, a filming permit, workes for a poduction company or is Native Canadian is exempt from paying the PST on their purchases.
GST still applies.

Anyone who can prove at least 1/4 First Nations background is tax exempt, as are some charitable organizations, educational organizations, churches, etc.

I work at a grocery store that is near a Native American base. They are all tax exempt.
