  • The Underappreciated Report Button

Well, it's that time again folks. Time to post a reminder for new and old members alike.

In the upper-right hand corner of every post is a little blue square with an exclamation point in it.

This is the "report post" button, and lately the mods have noticed a sharp upswing of failures to use it. We are not amused.

Any time you see a problematic post, click that button, type in an explanation of the problem, and the moderating team will be automatically notified. It's quick, easy, and completely anonymous; no one but the mods will know who reported what.

This is to be used for ANY problem, be it a duplicate post or thread, inappropriate or offensive posts, threads that are heading into Fratching territory, overly-heated posts, threads in the wrong forum, or any other violation of the Site Rules.

Under NO circumstances should you respond to these problems in the thread. Responding to a problematic or offensive post - even if what you are saying is 100% correct - is itself a violation of the rules. It's called "failing to use the report button" and infractions have and will continue to be issued for it.

    Quoth Site Rules
    15. Reporting Posts
Reporting posts is not just for major rule violations or offensive material. If you see any type of problem in a post, report it or PM a moderator. This includes not only offensive posts, but duplicate thread topics, copyright issues, multiple consecutive posts, or any other type of posting that is not consistent with the site guidelines and rules. Do not respond in the thread, especially for a duplicate post. Moderators do not always read every thread, so posting about these issues in the threads is pointless. The fastest way to have a problem dealt with is to report it.

    Sadly, this also needs bumping.

Seriously, people. Why is it so difficult to use the report button when you find something offensive, rather than responding to it in the thread?

    This completely baffles me.

We ask nicely, we ask not-so-nicely...and yet it continues.

I'll ask again: PLEASE use the report button. It's completely confidential and it really tends to put the brakes on any potential flame wars or hurt feelings that tend to evolve when they get rolling.

Thanks again for listening. And please feel free to PM any of us if you have any questions or concerns about this. Seriously.

      Bumpity bump bump!

Seriously, this thread is so new it hasn't even had the shiny rubbed off it yet. It should not need to be bumped yet, let alone bumped twice.

If you have a problem with a post, USE THE REPORT BUTTON! The moderating team is thoroughly unamused, and has the ability to issue infractions. Take the hint.

Seriously guys, if in doubt, report. We don't mind it, we would rather someone report something wonky than respond to it and ADD to the problem, It's actually less effort to press the report button than to type up a response to a troublesome post.
The report button - not just for decoration
