Cortana won't see microphone

so windows sees my microphone, regular windows speech recognition works pretty well. Cortana though when I do the microphone setup it says it's setup I clicked finish and it goes right back to showing no mic and asking me to set one up. I've uninstalled and resinstalled drivers, rebooted, turned up gain and volume, turned off exclusive access and turned off enhancements. I got no idea.

replaced hdd with ssd and updated to windows 10. seems to be working fine other wise.
