I prefer to be updated, I told Charlie don't let me be the last to know anything. As far as she goes I've been delt with and that's that, she can just go jump off a cliff for all I care.
    OK.

I just hope she doesn't start harassing you at work - not if they won't ban her for it.

besides, if she was really encouraging her children to treat the carts like a jungle gym then she's putting the store at risk for lost products... and will probably try to make them pay any medical bills should they get injured from their own actions.

I agree that it's not proper business policy to supply customers with information as to whether or not a customer is working that day. That could be a huge security risk. Does the store have caller ID? Can these calls be logged? If so, this may count as evidence to be used in a future harassment suit against her. Maybe a call to CYS is necessary as well.

Since the store doesn't seem to be doing their end, do you know of anyone that can come in the store and browse around, simply waiting for this stalker to come in? That could be your insurance.

Good point on the security risk.

At my last job ... I honestly don't know what they'd have done. I know we weren't allowed to tell customers employee schedules (other than our own) due to potential harassment risks. If someone was calling every time they wanted to come in because they wanted to avoid a specific employee... I think the managers would have gotten sick of the annoying calls myself.

Then again I've seen them invite customers to leave so... the end result would likely be different than what SV is having to put up with.

That is not a good policy. Companies should be able and willing to protect their employees, good customers and themselves from bad customers, and anyone who knows anything about human nature must know that there are always a few bad ones out there.
I agree, not banning anyone isn't a good policy - just shows, corporate's concern here isn't the safety and well-being of employees or other customers, but simply the fear of being sued if they ban someone who might claim discrimination in some way.

          Madness takes it's toll....

this sounds like Aaron's Vinegar Boy story.

Did the mother even ASK her kid why you were "yelling" at them? What did the kids tell the woman?

I was thinking the same thing.

The woman knew what was going on because she was recording her precious snowflake and his idiot friends with her iPhone.

To the OP: make sure you get copies of all audio/video and as someone else recommended, write down all the details while they're still pretty fresh in your mind.

You're NOT going to get fired over this. The video alone sounds damning enough against mother-of-the-year. Plus you're union.

Just be prepared - and don't do or say anything to anyone until you've talked to the union lawyer.

Better yet, I hope the fleas of a thousand camels infest her armpits and crotch. (slightly butchered quote from a movie that I can't even remember the title of.)
Wasn't a movie. It was Max Klinger from MASH (the TV Show, played by Jamie Farr), sans the crotch part. But I second that motion.

I read the OP to one of my nieces last night. She's fifteen, and she was aghast that these kids would behave that way, and that the mother would defend them so inappropriately.

"I would never have gotten away with this, if I'd even thought of or dared to do it," she commented to me. And she wouldn't have. My brother is the World's Best Dad: kind, accessible, open minded, good provider. But he taught his kids good manners from the get go, and breaking those rules is verboten under his roof.

Now I'll freely admit; I have no kids, so maybe I'm not in a position to know. But the good parents I know are parents, not buddies to their kids, and they set reasonable expectations, and devote time to teaching their kids how to be good people. From what little impact I've had on the rearing of my nieces and nephews, I know it's work and requires patience. But it seems to me far less effort is required to teach someone to be a good person, which means disciplining the kids when they get out of line, than to continually harass a store employee because your kids got caught doing something dangerous and stupid.

Which just goes to show; this nut mom is more concerned about herself than other people.
They say that God only gives us what we can handle. Apparently, God thinks I'm a bad ass.

She wasn't asking for my schedule, she wanted to know if they fired me yet. She didn't like the answer that was given so she decided she would call a couple more times to find out if they did or not, and if not she would shop somewhere else so she didn't have to see me ever again. It's against policy to give a customer an employee's schedule.

Hopefully since she's not getting the answer she wants she will take her moronic self and her moronic offspring and go to another store. Although I feel sorry for the staff at the other store ...

you know a self-ban is just as good as a store-ordered ban.
well... except that customers don't keep their word

but if you're sure she won't start shit with you if she sees you then, it sounds like it's going to be a moot point.

Although I'd still suggest being careful if she shows up. or if she tries to confront you.

Since this mother was recording the fun her kids were having, I bet it would show up on youtube.
Time! Time! Time is what turns kittens into cats.

Don't teach me a lesson; all I learn is that you are an asshole.

Which would make it interesting if one of her darlings was injured and she tried to sue ... well, if she got Judge Judy or someone similar, anyway.

Stuff like this is why I usually ignore what the kids do at my store. They can go ahead and get themselves hurt and it would be the parent's fault. Because every time an employee tries to tell a kid that they're doing something unsafe at my store, they get screamed at by the parent that their kid can "do whatever they want."

Yes, but once they do get hurt, the parents are all over you for not telling them to stop, and it could even open your store up to liability. It's a lose-lose.
