Our family psychiatrist, who has been amazing these past several years, has acted extremely unprofessionally the other day. I wasn't there, but I heard about it. The background is personal, but the gist of it involves a sibling, substance abuse, and potential jail time.
I'm not sure why they were seeing her at this time, but I think it has something to do trying to get a potential jail sentence reduced. In the past, she helped saved sibling from jail (letter to the court), but this time, she was accusatory, judgmental, and pretty much every bad thing you could be to someone who is at such a low point. She said she didn't want to see him again and that he was most likely going to jail.
So I went online and checked the reviews for this doctor. They were mixed. Some were positive, but the negative ones stood out. One described a very similar experience in which she kicked someone out of her office because she didn't approve of them taking medical marijuana (which is legal in my state). Others accused her of being a fraud who prescribes just enough medication to keep people coming back for more refills. Others mentioned that she never actually listens to patients.
The last one really stood out to me because the last couple of times I saw her, I tried explaining that some medication I was on wasn't working and that I might need something else. She insisted that I just need a higher dosage (I'm not a little guy so it made sense). However, looking back, I never really felt like the meds were doing much of anything.
And now I feel extremely betrayed. My family has put a lot of trust in her and this latest stunt feels like a giant slap in the face. But now I'm starting to wonder if she is a fraud (or at least someone who puts making money before patients). Especially since the therapists I had seemed kind of weary when I mentioned her. I'm definitely going to switch psychiatrists, but I just had to rant about this because it's just one more slap in the face in what is the beginning of a shitty year so far.
