  • Don't Touch Me!: The Sequel.

It all started over the most common argument: paying for bags.

Aaaaanyway, this woman felt the best way to respond when I told her she would have to pay 5cents per plastic bag would be to grab my hand an smack me with her wallet while saying, "Shame on you, Ikea!"
I pulled my hand away and didn't give her a death stare, but rather a look that said, "Don't you EVER fucking touch me again!"
She walked away saying, "Geeze, it was just a JOKE, get over it!"

I really don't care if you were joking. You don't grab a stranger and whack them with your wallet.
Now if she was a sweet little 90 year-old woman I would have seen it differently, but she wasn't.
She was a snotty bitch and yeah I get it, no violence towards customers, but if she had done this to me outside of work I probably would have shoved her pretty hard and had a few choice words for her.

The whole thing pissed me off most because of her attitude throughout the whole transaction.
She went from being nice but slightly annoying, to horrible in about 10 seconds.

I got the feeling from her that she was the sort to complain.
If she does she'll get nowhere as soon as I tell my manager that she grabbed me and hit me with her wallet.
In fact, I was praying that she WOULD complain just so I could watch my manager shut her down in front of everyone.

Better luck next time, I guess.

A wallet hitting my hand would have given me the "you're lower in status than me and I can treat you like this" and not the "I am being friendly with you" feeling.

    A+ reaction.

While she was walking away, but still in moderate earshot, I turned to the cashier next to me and very loudly said, "This is my bubble! Can we all stay out of my bubble?" while drawing an invisible ring around myself.
The other cashier cracked up, but I have no clue as to whether or not the SC heard.
          I really hope she did.

There's probably a decent chance the SC heard it.

Understand it? Doubtful. It probably just went in one ear and out the other. SCs seldom pick up on these not-so-subtle clues that they were, in fact, being sucky.

Um, do you work at Ikea? Or was she just saying Ikea? Etobicoke Ikea has NEVER charged us for bags, so that confuses me.

I assume you're at No Frills, Price Chopper or Food Basics.

That happened to my mom once in line at the supermarket. A woman tried to butt in line ahead of her and when my mom told her to go to the end of the line, the woman goes "bad day, dearie?" and puts her hand on my mom's arm. My mom is not a touchy person. Only certain people have permission to touch her at all, and they have to ask first (I'm the same way.). I believe my mom said something like "If you don't remove your hand in 5 seconds, you'll be pulling back a stump."

She wasn't joking. She was a nasty bitch. And the worst part about it is that she doesn't even have the guts to own the fact that she's a nasty bitch.

I HATE people who do or say offensive stuff and then go "Oh, I was just joking." Great. Now I know they're not only a bitch, but a liar and a coward as well.

Yes I do work at Ikea and yes we DO charge for bags.
                    As of Oct. 22, 2007 they're 5cents each.

That's what my mother said I should have told her.
"Oh it was a joke? Are assault charges a joke to you?"
But of course I would never go to such extremes. I could have, however, had her escorted off the property by LP and probably had it so that she would not be allowed to return for some time.
My store does not take customers putting their hands on coworkers as a joke in thew slightest.

Nope, I would not have taken that as a joke, either. I'm sure she heard your comment as she was walking away, but I'm also sure it went over her head. Just like what happened with me a couple years ago, when I was in my former retail hell chatting with one of my former co-workers. This jerk comes right up to him & interrupts our conversation. Former CW leaves for a minute to point him in the right direction. The jerk then heads for the registers & former CW back towards me. I said right out loud 'Gotta love those people who come right up to you & interrupt you, huh?' I'm not sure if the interupting jerk heard me, but I am hoping he did.
