  • Don't blame me for your bad parenting!

First time poster, but I have A TON of stories to tell and I'm so glad I found you guys!! Go team!

I have had quite a few retail jobs in the past and have always needed some place to vent about my days. I generally call my mom, which she gets a kick out of my rants, but I want to tell other people too. I mainly want to tell the customers themselves, but can't. I would tell my coworkers, but they too can sometimes be a bit...Well, you know.

I work in a fuel kiosk at a large chain store out in basically "Hicksville"...That is not the end of the story. Ha ha.

First off, I must say that I do not get breaks or lunches because I am generally the only person in the kiosk and no one else, but the 5 people who work AT the kiosk knows how to do anything out there. So bathroom breaks? Out of the question! Unless you really have no customers.

So back to the story...I was changing out the garbage bags, like a good little worker does, and needed to use the restroom. Well, I had people out at their cars, but they had already paid and didn't need anything from me, so I run in there while I had time and was in the restroom. As soon as I had come out, I had a line of MAYBE 4 people. Where was my doorbell!?!?! I wasn't even in there for long! Sometimes it goes off, sometimes it doesn't...I don't know...It's spooky like that. So I proceed to ring up my customers, well I notice a lady who is basically doing the potty dance, so I try to be nice to her, but she just shuts me off and rushes out the door...OOooookkk? She was my last customer, so I continue out to my garbage cans and I was on the can her car was next to. She looked at me and said that I should have hurried up because THIS would have happen and she didn't want to leave her car for too long. I looked in her car and she had two little girls about 2 and 4 who had locked the car doors.

First off, don't leave your kids in the car, lady.
Second, not my fault that mother nature hit me the moment you decided to walk in the door.
Third, don't leave your kids in the car.

I apologized to her and said a quick quip about not having anyone to cover my restroom breaks so she could hear my side of the story, but no...THERE ARE NO CASHIER SIDES TO CUSTOMER STORIES.

    Gah! So frustrating out there!

Why didn't she have her keys on her so she could just unlock the car again? o.O Who leaves their keys AND kids in the car together?

It's so I can get ideas out of my head, I decided to put it in a blog in case people are bored or are curious as to the (many) things in progress.

      Welcome to the site, Trixik!

We all see many forms of bad parenting all over the place, and whenever I see a real snotty customer, I hope to God that they don't breed or their kids will end up being exactly like they are. Sadly, most of them DO have kids, and they use their kids as an excuse to carry on their bad behavior all over the place.

        2 people.

        1. people who have had the kids panic and break out of the car setting off the alarms

        2. people who are unaware that children can drive off accidentally

I'm not a mom, but I can't see how she can win. Likethe Aesop's fable about the father, son and donkey. People would freak out that she locked the doors and left the windows open (because someone can open the door through the window), locked the doors and windows are closed (kids could sufficate), car on with a/c on (someone can open door and drive off with kids) or she could have the car on but also have a device (like a second remote) to open the car but she would still be pissed at Trixik

            Welcome aboard Trixik.

Should go w/o saying, but of course it has nothing to do with you; the girls may have locked the doors the second mom headed for your register. Even had you been there instead of in the bathroom (or in the aisles, or cooler, or wherever) she may have gotten locked out.

On the plus side, I now have the delightful mental image of some random SC playing an increasingly frustrating game of Press That Button For Mommy, Sweetie for twenty minutes or so out at your pumps.

Reminds of me of one customer I encountered 2 years ago. She complained to me about an out of order buggy shelter and because of that, her two kids were alone in the minivan while she had to go find the next nearest one! Which was right in the middle of the parking lot!

I saw the three of them earlier, and the kids were over the age of 5 and could probably handle being by themselves in a van for a few minutes. As long as you lock it, you should have no problem!

Who leaves their keys and their kids in the car? Dumbbunnies, of course, and you've spotted one. My condolences.

I work at a gas station and at times I'm the only one on duty. Is there any way you can lock the front doors on the inside and post a sign saying "brb 5 minutes" like I am able to do when i have to piss or shit?

Is it a sign of my cynicism and general lack of faith in humanity that when I read that you were at the garbage can her car was next to, I expected that she had gone in the can?

Or is it just that I've been around long enough to know the most likely scenarios by now?

Considering what you were doing when the SC entered the store, was your use of the boldfaced term (my emphasis) for what part of your duties you were performing after you finished your personal business intentional?
Any fool can piss on the floor. It takes a talented SC to shit on the ceiling.
