Reading a few of the recent posts has started me wondering...

Who has threatened to sue you and why?

    Here's mine

I used to sell an electronic device that (apparently) stimulated muscles and (apparently) helped to reduce wrinkles. Our lady of the hour comes into the store and enquires, specifically about the eye area.

Now, I may be strange but personally I don't want anything to do with electricty around my eye area and I advised her that only above the eyebrow and below the top of the cheekbone (basically avoiding the orbit).

She ums and ah's and eventually purchases the £189 system (good for my figures) and she goes away.

Two days later she comes back.

With electrical burns on her upper and lower eyelids, they looked sore, she then stated she was going to sue me, the store and the company that made the device, I pointed her in the direction of the management team who pointed her in the direction of customer services.

I've still not had my summons!
A PSA, if I may, as well as another.

Holy sweet Methuselah on Space Mountain, Batman!

No, seriously, what the hell? Nobody in their right (or left) mind would shove an electrical zapper-nator in their eye! At least, I would hope not. Unfortunately, my hopes appear to have been dashed once again by the infinite stupidity of mankind.

Also unfortunately I don't have any fun "going to sue you" stories. I could list a couple from camp but none were directed at me personally and none were really funny or entertaining, mostly just sad or distressing. Sorry.

I've had a couple from them as well. They never actually sent me a summons, but boy do they like to threaten one.

I haven't used it as a signature for some time (way back in the unix shell reading usenet days, in fact), but for this post I'll dredge up my badge of honor:

Years ago a drunken idiot threatened to sue me (well not me personally, the owners of the gas station I worked at at the time) for not giving cash out with EFTPOS transactions. Apparently he actually followed up on the threat and it got thrown out of court.

There was also the threatened lawsuit for refusing to sell premium because we didn't have any. The SC "knew" the real reason was that he's black.

A customer told me I personally would be receiving a letter from his lawyer because the scanned price on a chocolate bar was 10c higher than the shelf price, and because I was new, hadn't been told, and didn't know any better, I didn't know we had to sell it at the lower price.

not had any personally... i've had people threaten to go to the better business buereu quite a few times... one person threatened an investigation from the attorney general.

... my mother on the other hand has been in and out of court with this one guy repeatedly... everything from the new fence she put in lowered his property value (he by the way lives 4 blocks away) to accusing her that she was embezzling money from the home owners association (needless to say after that little fiasco the judge told him to cease and dissest until he provided proof it was happening, which he will never find because it isn't happening).

I posted a couple of podcasts criticizing the church, a while back, and also some articles. We had some material a couple years ago that is very much available today, some recordings of L Ron. Some cassettes. We agreed to take down the images, but we refused to surrender the tapes. We called their bluff and they've since left us alone.

I've also had "Corky," the head honcho of the Church of Sumuum threaten to use all of his resources to sue me for an article about their church. His threats come once every couple of years, and I simply cut and paste the Fair Use act, and nothing comes of it. The letters look good on the site, though.

                      Couple of SCs.

One over refusing to refund used printer cartridges (We had a scam going around where they'd buy the cartridges, then put their old one in the packet and pretend that they got the wrong one, even though the bottom of the cartridge was obviously used). We got a couple of "I'll sue yous" for those, before the guy came back and got juvenile and tried to start fighting with my AM...

We were all going to get sued for both Fraud and Assault

The other times have been legit Refund SCs, that demanded if we don't refund/exchange a broken item they probably did themselves (i.e smashed mobile phone screens, for instance) that they would sue and get us "shut down". The other thing is when SCs don't follow instructions for warranties (manuals in big letters saying DO NOT RETURN TO RETAILER), and they come back outside of our 14 Day Period and threaten that we take it. Most of these are laughed at, when the instructions are pointed at.

I am still awaiting lawsuits because

Not having any carts inside the building: I was a cart pusher for Walmart and because it was Black Friday, and they were all being used. So I of course was killing that womans baby because she couldn't buy the food. Why she couldn't go to another store is beyond me

For not having Japanese Porn for sale. I was working at my buddies Anime Shop at the time. We didn't want to sale it.

For charging late fee's. Job I have now, is in the Self Storage business. We rent out units. And if they don't pay on time, then we will charge a Late fee.

Let's see, there was our infamous customer, who bought a membership, drove everyone on our member forums nuts, snagged pics of other people from the forums and posted them on her website, goodness knows what else. My supervisor persuaded the higher-ups to give her a second chance, which they did; customer immediately started going on to the forums again, emailing us long complaint letters, CCed to other members, including personal info with the email, etc. Finally we refunded her money (all $40) and told her she couldn't be a member, she was causing too much trouble.

Holy smokes. I think we got threatened with everything from lawsuits to being written up in the German newspapers (no, we never did figure out what that had to do with anything.)

I haven't seen that, but I HAVE seen the recipient of a speeding ticket tell a judge "Well, I'm a doctor. So you can't fine me."
                            Judge's response: O RLY? STFU, n00b.

SC: "But I'm DOCTOR SOANDSO. You don't understand."
Judge: "I understand very clearly. However, your status as medical personnel does not mitigate the circum-"
SC: No. You don't GET IT. I'm a DOCTOR. I SAVE LIVES. Now you're a civil servant, so you need to start SERVING ME. I pay your salary, after all.
Judge: 3 days, contempt of court.

Said DOCTOR!!1eleventy was still yelling while being dragged out by the bailiffs.

There was a time I worked as a phone slave for a third party call center. The account I was on was for a certain US airline and I did customer service for the frequent flier miles customers. More like frequent LIAR miles. There was this policy where after 36 months or more of inactivity, whatever miles the customer had on their Frequent flier miles account would be permanently deleted and would have to start from scratch again. If it was 18 months of inactivity, they had their miles suspended or forfeited and had to do things like purchase more miles, get the airline's credit card, etc. to reactivate the miles (that was all spelled out in the membership terms and agreements, but as usual, SC's don't read). Aside from the fact that I would normally have SC's scream at me, or be entitlement whores, demand to speak with my supervisor, I've had some threaten to report our client the airlines to the FAA and/or the Better Business Bureau. One SC even threatened to take it to his lawyer and have an expose on the newspaper about the airline's frequent flier mile policy for inactive miles.
