Personal Hygeine (think guy / girl stuff ) so like wipes, shampoo, lotion, sanitizer, chap stick (yes even in the desert its necessary), deodorant, body soap, qtips, foot powder, body powder. etc mouthwash toothpaste, toothbrushes floss

First aid anything bandaids, neosporin, hydrogen peroxide. those hand warmers are nice, tylenol the caplets not the gel caps as those melt. and disposable heating pads are nice as well.

Food - Anything that is non perishable that can be eaten either with a microwave or is like a snack. If you send anything homemade vacuum seal it. ITs about 10 days from stateside to overseas. The holidays its about 16-19 days.

Entertainment. Movies, Cds, Magazines etc. If you know you are sending to a guy, porn is great but its technically not allowed. I sent hubby porn (only wife in his unit to do so btw so that was funny) and after a year he should have had a collection of about 500 movies (not just porn ) and a few hundred magazines. Yeah he didn't come home with any of that lol. I sent books, video games etc.

Phone cards to call home are also nice.

Just make sure you keep in mind where he's deployed when choosing what types to bake. In some regions, chocolate melts. Sugar or shortbread cookies are usually a pretty safe bet.

You'd think that, but none of the chocolate chip cookies that made it my way in Afghanistan ever melted.

On that note, if you do send cookies, send them in a hard container. If you make them small enough to put in empty Pringles cans, that worked really well. They came undamaged.
