  • The left hospital doesn't know what the right hospital is doing

So my Dad has diabetes, and a few years ago it caused a nasty foot ulcer, that was dealt with just in the nick of time. So when a new one pops up on his other foot, he got me to take him to the local clinic, who referred him to the local hospital. So we go there, and pull an all nighter to be seen. Once he's seen, he's pretty quickly admitted, and I go home for a good morning's sleep (listening to the same breakfast radio show I normally listen to on the way to work lol).

I head back later on in the day, and he says he's being transferred to the city hospital as the foot specialists are there. Now comes the entertaining part. First, there's no beds in the hospital, so he spends another night in the local hospital.

Went back to work today, and when I finish, my sister calls to say he still hasn't been transferred yet (because while there's a bed, there's no ambulance to transfer him), so I go up to the local hospital to find his room empty and the paramedics about to transfer him to the city hospital. I decide to drive back in to help him settle in and then head home, thinking it'll take about an hour or so.

So I get to the hospital to find that's he's been dumped into the Emergency Department's waiting room because there's no bed for him. We wait about an hour before we ask one of the clerk's, who's a real public servant, telling us it wasn't her problem and to see the triage nurse. So we see the triage nurses, who were outstanding. They apologised he was transferred when there was no bed, but said to keep coming up to them for updates. So Dad heads out for a smoke, and one of the triage nurses runs out saying they have a bed for him.

While we're waiting to be taken to the ward, they give us his file. Dad tries to read it before he asked me to read it. Well that was interesting reading. Apparently I had been notified that Dad had been transferred, which I had a giggle at because I found out purely by accident he was being transferred.

So we head up to the ward, and eventually one of the nurses works out who Dad is and he get's a bed in this hideous ward - I reckon hell is cooler than his ward the heating was on that high! I get him settled, and his doctor saw him. So he's settled now, and the big doctor will see him tomorrow, but man what a farce getting him transferred.

Shitty hospitals. Because when you're feeling your worst, you really need to be dealing with those sort of shenanigans.

File a complaint with the transferring hospital. The nurse who transferred your Dad falsified the medical record; a HUGE NO NO! She needs to be slapped for it.
