I got that "Are you deaf?" question once, so I looked the guy in the face and said "What?" and then refused to acknowledge that anything else was coming out of his mouth. In essence, I turned deaf to him and no one else, I just refused to acknowledge he existed. Looking at his face, I'm surprised he didn't drop dead from an aneurism.If a dog will not come to you after having looked you in the face, you should go home and examine your conscience.

When people ask me if I'm deaf, I tell them that I have had hearing problems my whole life. I have my hearing, but it's just not where it should be. That shuts them up really quick.
