how can someone be that DENSE?
First you get the Barbie head and a big bag of cotton balls. Stuff the Barbie head until you can't get any more cotton balls in there. Use the back of (the rounded in) of a screw driver to force more cotton balls in.

I might be giving her more credit than is warrented, but I think she just wanted to scam you. Get you confused enough so you will give her $100. She probably went to her car and went "darn it, he didn't buy it."

But my mom was like that once. She bought underwear, which was on sale 3 for $10. She wanted to by 4 pairs, and told the owner of the shop it would work out 4 for $12. the shop owner explained, I explained that that was faulty math, but she wouldn't get it. Ugh.

What a dunce. You should have just said it was her fault for being stupid enough to buy the warranty and therefore pay more.

That sort of language would dim it down enough for her to realize that she was at fault, whether she accepts it or not.

I would have gone so far as to draw her a quick graph like this:

                you bought:
                product 1099
                warranty 100
                accessory 100
                total 1299

                today's price:
                product 1199
                warranty 100
                accessory 100
                total 1399

                COMPRENDE YOU F*** TARD?!!
If she couldn't understand it by staring at it, then I'd give up and walk away pretending she didn't exist.

I actually had the opposite happen once.

For those of you who want to snicker/laugh/shake your heads at me owning a Mac (And continuing to own a Mac) feel free to in private. If you wanna bash my computer choice, go to fratching.

Long, long ago, when iMacs still had CRTs in them, I was looking to get a replacement for my original, 1st generation Bondi Blue iMac. It was the beginning of January, and most stores selling Apple products were having big sales, because they new lines were going to be announced. For those not familiar with Apple products, back then Apple mandated their computer prices. When they told you to drop the price from $1499 to $1299, you dropped the price to $1299. You could drop it lower if you wished, but Apple was selling the machines to you at reduced cost so they could blow out inventory, and you were expected to pass these savings on to the consumer, not keep the extra profit youself. This will be important later.

At any rate, a few of the Mac-specialized stores had a deal on on the first 3 levels of iMac (This was the generation just AFTER the frooty iMacs). The deal included a digital camera, and it was a good deal (Technically, it was just the Apple mandated price), but it was WAY out of my way to go there.

So, I went to the Future Shop that was near my house first. I brought a copy of the ad, which showed the dates the sale was on for, and clearly showed the price on the machine I was after. Future Shop carried this machine. I also stopped at their front doors, and read their price match policy, which stated in no uncertain terms that they would match any advertised price, or give it to you free (Which was retarded, why would they give it to you for free rather than match the price?). I marched in, and armed with the ad, flagged down a salesperson.

This particular iMac Future Shop was still selling for $1499. I showed him the ad, and asked if he'd price match it. I didn't need the camera (It was a cheap piece of crap anyway), I just wanted the machine. For the sale price Apple was mandating retailers sell at.

He flat out refused. He offered to sell me the floor display for that price, went back to check with his manager, then came back and said his manager said no.

I was not surprised. I hopped back in my car, went to the store that had the promotion, and bought the computer there.

Shortly afterwards, Future Shop had its right to sell Apple products stripped for refusing (repeatedly) to follow Apple's pricing, and consistently overcharging customers by a considerable amount, especially when Apple dropped prices to clear stock.

Then the iPod became huge. Guess who had to go crawling back to get the right to sell them?

                  Karma is awesome.

Quite honestly I think price matching is stupid. I get why you do it, to make the customer want to shop in your store blah blah blah BUT its a huge pain in the ass. Personally I've never had to do it but as a customer this may sound weird but I think its dumb.

I agree with you, but lamentably I work in a store that matches any advertised price.

                      Always Has, Always Will

In case you can't tell, they make a huge deal of this. There are certain exceptions, such as the competitor has to have the item in stock, and the advertised price can't just be a percentage off regular price.

I honestly don't think this is a scam, or even that the majority of her problem was mathematics. I think it was the fact that she was kicking herself in the butt because she didn't wait to come out to buy it on Monday during the sale, so that she could badger the sales person down even further from the sale price.

If she was this bad in requesting a price match, I have to send warm fuzzies to the poor sales person that she dealt and haggled with originally. Can you imagine?

Oh. My. God. Failure of epic proportions. It is too early in the morning to try and comprehend this. At all.

I think some people are just so BENT on being right that they do not even hear what you are trying to tell them. She had it in her mind that you ripped her off and there was no telling her otherwise. Either that or she had realized that she was wrong very early into it but was embarassed by her actions so she just kept arguing her side because her pride and ego wouldn't allow her to admit she was mistaken. Ego is a funny thing.

I've been with them since the Mac Plus. I even stuck with them after the Proforma series, and that takes serious loyalty.

Wait... they didn't think the prices Apple set were high enough? This places wasn't a front for... y'know... products that the police would be rather interested in, would it? And they let management sample the wares?
