Well, I just did some minor experimentation. Turns out we can use Google Maps to do a custom map, unlisted (so doesn't show up in search results), editable by any user who has the link, which we can publish here.

Sorry to bring up an old thread but I still get a 404 when I try to go to Map It Up! too. It sounds interesting, if it could be fixed
