I usually find that when the question "what were they thinking" is asked, rephrasing it as "WERE they thinking?" is equally accurate.

That reminds me of the time my sister and I bought a new box spring for my bed. We first went to Rona's to buy rope and then to Sears to buy the box spring.
We never had this dilemma, though. Just used the rope to tie the box spring to the roof of the car and try to drive it and ourselves home in one piece, since we didn't have a rooftop rack.Comment
