    Tumblr banning all adult content

      And this challenge is driving people in all directions.

      Newgrounds has a link on their front page welcoming the refugees, and they also tweeted earlier today that "we feel for some reason again that we should share that NSFW content has been and always will be welcome on our site!"

        Its worse than that, a SFW art blog I'm following has had all kinds of random content flagged as explicit, whatever filter they're using is not ready for prime time

          Famous last words: "Oh yeah, the automated systems will handle everything!" Not that crowdsourcing doesn't have its own problems. AIUI, Facebook, Twitter, and the other "big guys" use "censor farms" in the Philippines or other low-wage areas.

              Dreamwidth, a Livejournal copy run by volunteers, has seen a sudden uptick in activity. First LJ users moved to Tumblr when LJ went downhill, now they're moving back to DW...

                  Heck, look at the NAR comment threads with their various measures to evade the swear filter. The other day someone pointed out that zero-width spaces work a treat.

                  IIRC, DW was founded in response to the revelation that LJ had gone over to the Russians.

                    It was, and it does work quite well, although there is a limit to how many people you can follow if you don't have a paid account, unlike LJ which had no limit; they just made "extras" like the number of icons you could use part of the draw of a paid account.

                      Dudes, they are banning all kinds of things that aren't even remotely sexual in nature.

                      My avatar got tagged NSFW. It's a picture of one of my cats.

                      The people I'm friends with on Tumblr are migrating over to Dreamwidth, Twitter, and Pillowfort. PF looks nice and while still in beta, seems promising.

                      There were a couple of long posts people put up that explained that the real reason behind this coming ban is, as always, MONEY. And mismanagement, but that's a given for Tumblr, apparently.
