The liquidation of the fabric store has begun in earnest. Every fabric that is not advertised in the (nationally-available) flyer has a liquidation markdown of 33%. Every fabric that is on sale is on sale for various percentages, then has a liquidation markdown on top of that of various percentages, depending on the sale percentage.
Everybody with me so far? ...Bueller?
Needless to say, everybody is confused, both customers and employees. Fortunately, the sale signs are printed in nice big type that even my nearsighted eyes can see from the cutting counter. Still, we have to figure out which fabric gets what percentage and hand-enter it into the handhelds. I turned to my coworker and said, "Next week, we'll have to figure it by pi."
Coworker:
Me:
Coworker: I thought you were serious for a moment!
I've been having an awful lot of clumsy moments lately: dropping things, slipping on fabric lint, cardboard cuts from signs and bolts, etc. Today took the cake. As I was putting fabric back, I went to where another coworker had been rearranging the fleece. A customer had asked her something, and she went to help her, asking me to put the fleece back. Not a problem, so I went to do so.
I ended up tripping on something -- loose fabric, my own big feet, I don't know -- and slammed right into the shelves on the wall. Big bruise on my upper arm, otherwise nothing hurt but my pride.
Scared the customer and my coworker. Coworker made sure I was okay. Later, customer came up to me and made sure I was okay. I appreciated their concern. I joked that if I'd be lucky if I didn't accidently decapitate myself by the end of the shift.
It's going to get weirder as the sale goes on. We will all be very happy when we are finally moved into the new store...just in time for Black Friday.
