I thank you all again for your sympathy and for the fact that you've been thinking of me, and thought enough to take the time to post your comments here.

There is so little and so much to be said.

I guess the best I can say is that I'm sorry, I sympathise, I care.

And I have one additional option for your poor mother to think about: donating the prosthetic legs.
        Seshat's self-help guide:
        1. Would you rather be right, or get the result you want?
        2. If you're consistently getting results you don't want, change what you do.
        3. Deal with the situation you have now, however it occurred.
        4. Accept the consequences of your decisions.

I'm going out to my mother's house today to take her into town so we can start dealing with the business aspect of a person's death. On our agenda are picking up the death certificate from the funeral home, talking to people at the bank and the insurance office, and going to the cell phone store to have his account cancelled.

          We're getting by.

We're even getting by well enough to start in with the dark humor again. I mentioned to my mother on the phone just now that my boyfriend and I are in a tizzy over it all because both my job and his job sent flower arrangements to our apartment. The flowers from both places were gorgeous and very thoughtful.

And we hate -- we just hate -- having to acknowledge that the management at our jobs might actually consist of human beings. Normally, their actions and decisions make it easy to conclude that except for us and our friends where we work, our jobs are staffed entirely by giant walking assholes.

And this? Flowers? It upsets our entire paradigm.
