The new single-building World Trade Center is now expected to retake the title of "New York City's tallest building" making it just taller than the Empire State Building.

although there's the usual bickering over how to decide who's tallest - do you count antennas or not, etc.

Was it not possible to plan it so that the structure itself would be higher than the top of the ESB antennas?

The article is a rather interesting read. By the end of the day, the steel of the WTC will be higher than the ESB. However, the WTC can not claim its hight record until it is occupiable.

When it is finished, it will be taller than the ESB. The real question is whether or not it is taller than The Building Formerly Known as The Sears Tower (I refuse to call it the other name ).
