I have never been a huge Sendak fan, but I always loved the message of Wild Things, as I see it:
You can run away, be a wild thing, have a wild rumpus, but in the end you can always come home, and your supper will be waiting for you, and it will still be hot. I think every child needs to feel this kind of security, and Sendak made it clear to them in a fanciful, unique way.
He was a major force in children's literature and the world is a little less whimsical without him.
