  • Try harder to bribe us buddy (HP7 Woes)....

So we got the Harold Porter....erm, I mean Harry Potter & the Deathly Hollows boxes today. As me, the SM, and one of the keyholders are watching the Delivery Guy unloading the boxes, a guy comes up, obviously interested in the boxes of the forbidden tomes. He tries to bribe us to give him a box. We tell him no. He relents, now begging for a copy, seeing that (Yeah, I don't think this is info Scholastic would like revealed, regardless of how minor it is security wise.). SM tells me to call Mall Security as the Keyholder is standing between him and the boxes. Mall Security arrives a couple minutes later to "escort" this guy away before he tries to run off with a box.

The gut-buster? He tried to bribe us $20......each.

The funny (or sad depending on your POV) thing is if anything huge happens like the "Harry dies" rumors, every media outlet is going to spoil it within seconds in that wonderful style where they give you a spoiler alert then blurt them out before you can avoid them.

Hell, I've never even opened a Harry Potter book and even I know about Snape and Dumbledore thanks to it being a running gag on YTMND.com.

Should've said: "Give us those 40 dollars and you can have a single copy of the book. On July 21st."

Im picking up my copy at 12:01am
I wont be sleeping that night (Ive already adjusted my sleeping pattern) until Ive read the entire book. If I fall asleep, when I wake up I will keep reading until Im done.
No tv, no radio, no internet no phone calls nothing until that damn book is read.

          and you know why

because of ASSHOLES like that guy who are so pathetic they think it makes them soooo cool to spoil everyone elses fun!!!!

I'll be buying the book as well. But not at 12:01. I'll be asleep. I'll pick it up after work. Also, I think I'm the only person at work that reads for recreation, so I don't have to worry about any spoilers there.

ill also be getting the book at 12:01am. i talked to the place that i reserved my copy they will be doing it for sure, when i talked to them when i reserved right after it was up for reservation they said they were not sure if they would do the midnight release or not.

i really dont care about spoilers, it usually keeps me interested in what im watching or reading just to see how it actually happens.

i cant belive that guy tried to buy you off for only 20$

I won't be getting mine at midnight, but it will probably be delivered to my door at about 8:00am on Saturday morning. Then I have the whole weekend to read it before I see anyone else who is interested.
The only words you said that I understood were "His", "Phone" and "Ya'll". The other 2 paragraphs worth was about as intelligible as a drunken Teletubby barkin' come on's at a Hooter's waitress.

Ditto - I'm already going in to work on Saturday at 12 instead of 9 and have the option of calling out later - we're a call center and Saturdays are SLOW.

I'm surprised bookstores are already getting shipments. From what I remember of HBP, I wouldn't have expected any to have them before Friday morning. Like July 20AM!

And apparently there are a good handful of people out there who have read it already - editors, the revewiers for the WSJ and such - one of my friends knows someone who read it. Of course, if they spill ANYTHING, job is lost immediately and there may be legal action, so..... 5-1/2 days to go!

$20 for a bribe? Sounds like one of my old customers as I was always bribed.

As for the final book, I have a schedule filled out for Friday and Saturday.

Friday: Go to Borders at 8 PM, meet friends there.

Sat; 12:00 AM midnight: Get book put on earphones blasting Alice In Chains get to car and continue metal music as to drown out spoiler idiots.

Read the book throughout the day.

                      End schedule.

That being said, did you ever figure out exactly how much it would take to buy you off?

Oh come on, he just wanted a box right? So take the books out and put them in a secure place, and give him the box. Empty. Then demand your twenty.

I'm hoping that there is an organized group of Kiwis with scanners, good OCR software and a good usenet connection out there, I could start reading it 19 hours before the official PDT release.

Alas, we won't be getting ours at 12am. But we will get them at 9am when Blockbuster opens. We did their thing where you rent 6 movies and get it for $12.97.

However, we will be going to Starbucks. One of our local Starbucks is going to become the Leaky Cauldron from 9pm to Midnight and they'll be serving Butterbeer and Pumpkin Juice!
