Question Harassment my ass!

This is an incident that happened yesterday morning, as I was starting my shift at work. For those who don't know me, I work as a casino dealer. Last night I was dealing blackjack.

I get to the table, and start dealing. Few minutes later, the supervisor D (a black lady, and yes it's relavant) comes over, and notices that this one black guy on the table looks like he is really young (which he did). The conversation went like this:

D: Excuse me sir, but can I please see your ID for a moment?
SC: No, you can't.
D: Sir, I need to see your ID.
SC: I showed it when I came in, you don't need to see it again. How do you think I got on the boat?
D: That's as may be, but I still need to see your ID.
SC: Here! *pulls out a FEMA ID, which is not valid as there's not a DOB on it*
D: That doesn't work, sir.
SC *rants about not needing to show his ID*

At this point, D goes over to the Pit Boss, and has Security called to come talk to the guy. Security arrives a few minutes later.

s: Sir, can I see your ID?
SC: I am not showing you my ID again, I already showed it to you!
S: Sir, I'm with Security, and you need to show me your ID.
SC: No, I don't.

And then the floor instructs me to color him up (exchange low value chips for high ones), and Security stands there while I do it, and they then escort him out of the casino.

And then, to top things off, guy starts complaining about how D was "harassing him" by asking for his ID. Um, she's doing her job, buddy. Is it REALLY that hard to take out a small rectangle of plastic for 10 seconds? No? Then shut up and pull it out, or get bounced. He chose the latter.

What IS it with people who refuse to show ID (or show something that doesn't qualify as ID) when asked to do so? I just don't get it...

It would mean that he doesn't have ID. If it's anything like the casinos out here, they don't check your ID (unless you start winning...)

I know this might be stereotypical, but this sounds like an idiot who's using his FEMA relief money to gamble. As a taxpayer, I have seriously had to bite my tongue at the idiots who waste that money.

No no, you might be misunderstanding. This guy tried to show a FEMA "worker" ID, the kind that shows you do work for FEMA, as proof of age, instead of a driver's license. And despite what you might think, Security does randomly check people as the come on the casino floor. Sit there and watch them some time.

Another local casino, one of our competitors, got in BIG trouble when the state police sent in three 19 year olds, and it took them 3 hours for them to get caught, after gambling and drinking the whole time. They almost got shut down for 24 hours, which is a stunning blow to any casino.

People don't realize what a big deal it is to be of age for certain things and the trouble the casino/alcohol seller, etc can get into. I'm glad they kicked the dude out. He sounds like a complete idiot.

I can't speak for the casino where Tuxian works, but the casinos out here are anal. My mother and stepfather both work for one as well as various other family and family friends. In this state, Missouri, they will check you when you get your casino card, when you go to get in to the casino, and you could get checked anywhere else. They are very very strict.

I agree, it's not hard to present the proper ID when asked to . . . I work at a Pawn shop and we have rifles/pistols for sale . . . in order for a customer to be able to see and handle the firearm, they have to present ID and we keep it while they look and handle the gun (a requirement, no ifs, ands, or buts - we simply don't want people walking out with the gun). Some people refused! more than one even! Sorry, no ID, no gun. . . You probably weren't gonna buy it anyway.

Ahhh, sorry!

Most of the casinos here are 18+ because they don't serve alcohol. You needed to be 18 at least to get one of the FEMA debit cards, so I thought he might have been trying to pass that off as proof of age.

:slaps forehead: Thats what I get for thinking California is normal.

Now I'm jealous....you have to be 21 to go to a casino in WI. Oh well, one day my friends and I will make a trip of it and head to MN to gamble

And you bet I'll have my ID on me and you bet I will have no problem at all showing it to anyone who asks for it.

For Christ Sake......I still roll my eyes when I go into gas stations and the people in front of me refuse to show ID. It brings back terrible, terrible memories. And those memories are only from a year ago up until 2 weeks ago (oh my!).

Maybe we should super glue their IDs to their face, and they'll hurt themselves trying to take it off

Here in New Orleans, the casinos ALWAYS card me on my way in. The one time I went to a few in Biloxi, Miss., it was the same thing.

Oh, man, the time my mom and I visited the casino (also in Missouri, we went to the Ameristar) just after I got my head shaved, they carded me on the way in. I was like, "That's new..." I immediately gave up my ID, but it was surprising as a friend of the family had told me not even a day before that my short hair made me look older, and I'd never been carded going in before. Eh. But, this is also one of the places I've had my gender mistaken on more than one ocassion, so, no big deal.
