  • Paranoid Much?

So way back when I was working the floor at a certain chain of stores whose name sounds like the condition of your vegetarian date's meal (hint: all greens ), I was covering for a coworker at the front register. It's the rush hour, and *everybody* needs cigarettes where I worked.

Up comes a customer to buy cigarettes. I ask for his ID. He flashes it at me and then puts it away (as if this ever accomplishes anything anyway). I ask to see it again.

SC: "I don't want to show you my ID."
Me: "In order to sell you these cigarettes, I have to see your ID."
SC: "That's personal information. I don't want you to have my address."
Me: "I don't need your address. I just need to check your birth date."
SC: "I don't want to give you my birth date."
Me: "That's fine, but I'm not legally allowed to sell you these cigarettes until I can verify your age from your ID."

    SC walks off.

    Buy cigarettes much?

Question: are there no cigarette dispensers in the US? In Germany, you'll find them in practically every pub, bar, club, restaurant... just drop in your money and get your poison.
You gotta polish a memory like a stone. Chip off the parts that remind you it was just a game. Work it until it's indistinguishable from any other memory.

And don't forget every few feet down the side walk. (I currently live in Germany)

And yes in the US, cigarette machines are illegal since it's the law that you must verify the age of the person buying the ciggs if they look under 30. (Some stores make it for everyone no matter what their age is as well.)

Wow, trying to remember the last time I saw a cig machine.

I would imagine that there are still cig machines, but even back then they were mostly in places where you have to have an ID to get in.
I've lost my mind ages ago. If you find it, please hide it.

          Re: Cigarette Machines

About the only place they have cigarette machines around here (in Missouri) is on the riverboat casinos, since you have to be at least 21 to set foot on the actual boat.

Ahhh the good old days. I remember seeing cigarette machines when I was a kid, then they became restricted, and could only be put where they would be supervised all the time, now they have mostly disappeared around here. Probably for 2 reasons. 1) What is the likelyhood that anyone is running around with nearly $6.00 in change for a machine, and 2) Not worth it to the bars and clubs because most states around me have a "No smoking in public places" law. A few bars have built outdoor decks etc for smokers, but not many. So now if I want to have a drink and a smoke I have to go to Moo Hampshire, where they have no sales tax, but a GD 7% restaurant tax! You can't win in New England.
The only words you said that I understood were "His", "Phone" and "Ya'll". The other 2 paragraphs worth was about as intelligible as a drunken Teletubby barkin' come on's at a Hooter's waitress.

Use to be one in a hotel that I went to as a kid.... Whether it's still there.... Or maybe just a relic of a bygone day.... I have no clue.

Yup yup, there are a few bars in NC with cigarette machines. In Spain, the cig machines were EVERYWHERE.

I remember when I was a kid (about 20 years ago.....) they used to have them in this one bowling alley. Right next to the candy machines. Hell, these days it's easier to buy liquor than cigarettes.
