Would you buy art (or a print) from an "unknown"?

I worked with a couple of guys once who were fairly good artists. One is a graphic designer working in UXD (user Interface Design), and another is a full-time painter.

My question is this: If you saw a piece of art you liked, but it was done by an "unknown" artist, would it be something you might still consider buying?

I've read that people will try to sell their art on that one well-known auction site.

If you found a piece on there you liked, would you bid on it?

I'm just curious.
