I thought someone had done a Bradbury again. But that is even more ridiculous. I have a feeling that the qualification processes are going to be looked at after this.

      * Steven Bradbury won a gold medal after everyone else fell over in the final of a speed skating event in the 2002 winter olympics. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Steven_Bradbury

I do love how Bradbury's actual strategy was to hope for a crash.

I didn't realise just how well that strategy worked out for him until I watched the current Winter Olympics short track speed skating where nearly every heat had someone wiping out.

As for our halfpipe skier friend, I went back and re-read through her wiki page. Basically, it reads like an Eddie the Eagle kind of story, except that at least HE made an effort, whereas she just lucked out ahead of actual athletes who stacked it. And yes, the Hungarian Olympic Committee will be looking at the qualification process.

And speaking of "Eddie the Eagle-esque" stories, apparently Pita The Tongan Flagbearer (I cannot spell his name to save my life) only took up cross-country skiing after the Rio Olympics (he was the shirtless Tongan flagbearer there!), got through most of the qualifications through roller ski events (I had no idea that was even a thing ) and then managed to get into the Olympics through a race held in Iceland that he was able to attend. He at least knew he had a snowball's chance in hell of medaling and admitted he just wanted to get over the line before the lights went out. (he succeeded too!)
