Cannon Films also had the rights for Captain America. When Golan left Cannon Films and started his own 21st Century Films, he took the rights with him.

Director Albert Pyun stated that during filming, Golan was still trying to get funding for the film. There were several days where they filmed scenes without film in the camera, just to keep the crew around and working. They would then lie to the crew and re-shoot when they had the money to do so... "The lab accidentally ruined the film from the other day, so we have to shoot those scenes again."

In Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom, that cult isn't the usual cultural appropriation. The director consulted Hindu experts to help him design the dress, decorations etc, specifically to create a cult where any Hindu would look at it and say "those folks are evil, batshit crazy, and dangerous to boot". It's something like the Hindu equivalent of Satanism.

The movie Fahrenheit 451 (1966) featured a real monorail. Unfortunately it was torn down shortly after the movie was made.

        Clip two from the movie.

Cannon Films green-lit a series of movie based on Allan Quartermain adventures, in an effort to cash in on the popularity of Indiana Jones. Menahem Golan demanded that "that Stone woman" be hired as the female lead... Sharon Stone had just started and was getting notice in the industry, so she was hired.

The two Cannon films were being filmed back-to-back to save money. One day Menahem Golan shows up on set to make sure things are going smoothly, and Sharon Stone walks up to him to thank him for the role. Apparently Golan's reaction to meeting her was along the lines of...

"Who the f*** is this? I wanted the Stone woman in this movie!"

Golan meant Kathleen Turner, who starred in "Romancing the Stone". No one asked to clarify.

Also, Sharon Stone was such a diva on-set that during a scene (in the second movie) where she's in a giant cooking pot, several members of the crew "added fluid" to the pot. This rumour has been confirmed by Cassandra "Elvira" Peterson, who appeared as an evil queen.

(if anyone gets a chance to see the documentary "Electric Boogaloo", do so... it is hilarious)

This bit in Thor Ragnarok came about because a Make-A-Wish kid was visiting the set and suggested it to Chris Hemsworth.

Remember in the film "Se7en" the car chase where Brad Pitt's character injured his hand? That wasn't acting. He genuinely injured his hand by accidentally punching through a windscreen. Rather than stop filming, they rewrote the script to include the injury. Since they film out of sequence, though, he had to spend a lot of time with his injured hand in his pocket during "earlier" scenes.

Similarly, Leonardo DiCaprio really did cut his hand open in "Django Unchained" when he slammed it on a table and broke the glass. Kerry Washington's reaction to DiCaprio (keeping in character) smearing his blood on her face was genuine.

                  Princess Bride again

During several filming days during cold weather, Andre the Giant would keep Robin Wright warm by gently resting one of his massive hands on top of her head.

Outside of movies - Andre was known for being able to hold his alcohol pretty damn well. As in (reportedly) well over a hundred beers in one sitting at one point. Not that they were that large to him...

Now you know why I said he could "hold his alcohol pretty damn well" More than one meaning there.

Fallout (heh) from the 1998 Godzilla movie... (sauce: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wKvtWhLrYxM)

                      - Critics HATED it, many audience members did not like it, and Toho -- the original rights owners, hated it even more

                      - Fans of GZ and the genre in generally dubbed the GZ in this movie "GINO" (Godzilla In Name Only)

                      - The guy who played GZ in the Toho GZ films from the mid-80s to the mid-90s was at a showing of the film during a Comic-Con. He walked out partway through, stating, "That's not Godzilla"

                      - Once they had re-acquired the rights, Toho dubbed the 1998 GZA as "'Zilla" (because, as one person at Toho claimed, "They took the 'God' out of 'Godzilla'") intentionally canonized the film for one reason, and one reason only: So they could kill it off mercilessly during a ten-second cameo in a real GZ film a few years later.

The Motion Picture Association of America originally gave the 1987 movie RoboCop an X rating, due to its graphic violence. To get it to an R rating, some scenes had to be shortened or cut.

The movie The Birds was mentioned in the Random Thoughts thread.

When filming the birds they trained a bunch birds to chase people by having the people run, then stop and hold out their hands with bird seed. The rest of the birds followed the trained birds. This worked very well in the movie.

Afterwards they just released the birds into the wild. There were some interesting encounters with birds and local residents in the local area over the next few weeks as the birds tried to get bird seed from people who were running away from them.

On the South Park movie -- Supposedly, the initial rating from the MPAA would have been an X rating due to scenes that had been intentionally added just to see how the MPAA would react. When asked to remove/clean up parts of the film, the SP guys supposedly put stuff in that they thought was MORE controversial/nasty/etc than the original material, just to see what happened. The new version got approved for an R-rated release.

... and that movie was 2004's "Godzilla: Final Wars", which was the last movie until the US reboot in 2014, and the Toho reboot in 2016.

"Godzilla: Final Wars" was the acting debut of MMA fighter Don "The Predator" Frye, best known for a legendary brawl with wrestler Yoshihiro Takayama (seriously, great fight, look it up if you are so inclined)

"Godzilla: Final Wars" also featured Japanese/American actor/martial artist/athlete Kane Kosugi, son of Japanese actor Sho Kosugi, the martial artist who popularized the ninja craze in the 80's. Kane's first movie was in Sho's 1983 cult classic "Revenge of the Ninja". Kane also is the most successful American to compete in the "Sasuke" TV series, also known as the Ninja Warrior competition. He's the only American to make it to the final stage, the first to beat the Spider Climb, and the only one to compete five times without failing on the first stage.
