We have a rooftop restaurant that's opening sometime next year (hopefully in the spring, but we all know how construction schedules are); the stairs are near the front street entrance of the store.
I was facing the honey near the stairs when a customer looks up (the first flight of stairs and landing are currently used to display backstock that's too big or annoying to exist in the warehouse). Customer stops in front of the stairs, looks up (didn't see me). "Hey, where do these stairs go?"
Another customer (wearing a Ghostbusters shirt) beat me to the punch.
"They go up."
First customer didn't get it, but D (fellow awesome grocery dude) who was passing by did...then asked me why I didn't grab the line and run with it.
Me: "I didn't want to get yelled at for being a smartass...besides, his delivery was perfect."
