  • Things that make your job worth it.

I know this is mainly a site for venting, and I've done my fair share, but I really do love my job. Seeing some of the most beautiful scenery and getting paid for it is pretty amazing. Meeting people from all over the world is a fun experience. I have great co workers and an awesome manager. Watching everyone get out of their cars to wave at the train is cool. Waving back is even more cool.

What, if anything, do y'all like about your jobs?

    I love my job.
No two days are the same. I work with a variety of people and personalities with their own sets of quirks or problems.

I don't have to be nice, I don't have customers

I can, if my client is open and willing, make a difference in someone's life. Something that I've said, may stop a person from taking their next hit, or committing their next crime. At least I can hope so

I was able to rent a Dodge Charger at economy car rates.

Unfortunately, I have to turn it in on Friday.

I'm going to say, these don't at all make my job worth it, but at times they make it bearable!

-When I help regulars who recognize me. These people take a number without complaining, I can joke around with them, and they generally treat me like a real person.

-Sometimes a person will tell me that whenever I help them, I'm fast and nice. I'm talking about times when I don't remember helping the person before, but they remember me.

-When I can actually give advice or some sort of recommendation and the person appreciates it.

-Days when I work with coworkers who are good workers. This is fairly rare.

I get vacation time and a pay check every two weeks. At this point that is all that makes my job worth it, because I'm at the point where I wonder if I'm back at Random Craft Store and should just keep my head down, my mouth shut, and do what I'm told.
Eh, one day I'll have something useful here. Until then, have a cookie or two.

I love my regulars. I have several regulars who whenever they see me, they have nothing but smiles and happy words for me. They also do their best to make me smile when they see that I'm having a rough day.

I also love the flexibility that knowing multiple positions gives me. I can easily jump in and help out pretty much anywhere I need to now. I freaking love being cross trained. I didn't get that at my old job and I love so much that I work at a place that is encouraging cross training.

I spend a good amount of time with patients because the type of imaging I do relies on the body to do its thing, which takes awhile. I love explaining how it all works. It's even better when a patient understands it and thinks it's as fascinating as I do.

There are times I wish our higher-ups were more open to changes. I've been doing some continuing ed and some of the articles I've read recently had some great ideas that would vastly improve a number of our exams. But because our system is so large and they're trying to keep protocols as standard as possible, they're not going to change. Which is really frustrating.

Things that make my job worth it?

When I show my boss's boss a new reporting dashboard I coded up and him then showing it to all his colleagues while saying, "Have you seen this? It's f-ing great!" all while giving me credit.

When I'm not feeling well and my boss says, "You don't look like you should be here. If you want to work, go home and log in remotely. Rest and get better."

When a manager says, "We are going to do X because I'm tired of Y," and when I point out why it won't work, he says, "Good point. What would you do?"

Respect is a currency that a lot of people don't get paid in. I'm thankful to be working in a place where people aren't frugal with it.

The only customers I deal with are truck drivers who have a foul mouth like myself. I love being able to say fuck and shit and talk crap with them. Could I do that at my last job? LOL NO.

I seem to hate my job a lot but I really don't. At the moment I have an incredibly easy job at work. And when we're done I get to clean my machine off, which is awesome. I always loved the cleanup. Spraying the hose and water and all that fun stuff.

My co-workers are pretty nice. Lot of puerto ricans, which scared me at first but they're all really cool.

My work is pretty mindless so it doesn't matter what condition I'm in when I get to work.

I occasionally get "spoken to" or receive some dirty looks, but it seems REALLY hard for me to get in trouble there. Possibly because I'm a good worker. I don't know.

I forgot to add this in my last post. I get to use a forklift at my job. That alone almost makes the job worth it lol.

My bosses, whilst not perfect are incredibly supportive and like me. They also trust me and are happy to throw extra responsibility my way.

Any solutions I find to problems I'm encouraged to share, as well as general ideas.
