Thumbs up Holy crap! The staff on tonight kicked ass :)

Due to the power issue at home that I've got going on I stayed at work after my shift...and it's a good thing I did too! Two staff members (one a trainee!) dealing with a mad rush before the Hedley concert just is not doable. Even if both staff members were fast there is no way they could have handled everything. So I jumped up and helped out

I have to say that my two employees kicked butt. The new guy finally knows the speed we need him to work at and I'd say he's a keeper. Especially after how he stepped it into high gear and didn't want to run away.

The guys kept smiling and working hard as we got through the line we'd gotten hit with. And one of them (the long time one) said it's nice to actually have a real manager finally

But my two tonight really kicked it into high gear and performed quite well under the circumstances. I think I'll be letting head office know how hard they both worked and see if there's something nice we can do to thank them

See, this is the difference it makes.

For their wages, your staff will do their jobs. For a manager they respect, they will do their best.

Kudos to them! From the sound of things, something directly from you (even if it's a token, free lunch, etc) would mean more than anything corporate would do.

That gives me a scary thought -- Corporations often respond to "This guy kicks ass!" by overloading them with additional work, rather than recognizing thr talent they have. I hope they don't /can't.

THIS!

And then some!

It looks like you know how to earn the staff respect even with your short tenure there.

WTG!

The fact you were there on your off time, and worked to make sure everything got taken care of...and THEN praise your co-workers both here and to your bosses...That says quite a bit, and I hope you never lose that attitude Your workers might just go on a hunger strike if the powers that be decide to promote you out of there

Absolutely! Nothing motivates staff more than managers who (a) pitch in when needed, and (b) make it clear the workers' efforts are appreciated. In my last job, I was told, "If nobody says anything, you're doing OK." Obviously employee motivation wasn't even on their Top 10 list ...

^This! And I think it's nice of you to get them some recognition for their hard work. I think with your excellent management and super employees like these two, you'll turn that store around very quickly.
